Who is Jeanne Pepper?

Jeanne is an attorney, podcaster, writer and activist who speaks to students, parents and organizations; sharing her inspiring story and encouraging others to practice intentional kindness and as a cautionary tale to beware the dangers of  online meetups and extremism.  

The platform her family created for gathering information during their son Blaze’s disappearance was later referred to as the #BlazeItForward movement and morphed into a public group on Facebook.  That group with over 34,000 members celebrates intentional acts of kindness, diversity and community service.   They are dedicated to creating a legacy for Blaze that will make his life’s mission to repair the world a reality.

Who is Blaze Bernstein?

Blaze Bernstein is the son of Jeanne Pepper and Gideon Bernstein.  In 2018, Blaze was a 19 year old student at the University of Pennsylvania when he was murdered by an extremist neo-Nazi (“perpetrator’) that he met when they both were students at the Orange County School of the Arts in 2014 (when Blaze started high school). The perpetrator used Blaze’s killing to elevate his status within the ranks of a hate group he found online.  The hate group targeted gay and Jewish people, among others.  

Since Blaze’s death, Jeanne and her husband Gideon have called for acceptance of marginalized people, community activism and intentional acts of kindness to empower communities to fight against hatred and injustice and to envision a kinder more caring world.

Dr. Balestrieri earned her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, and completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship though the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, with a concentration in Forensic Psychology. In over 16 years of clinical experience, she has conducted clinical and forensic evaluations, provided expert witness testimony in court, and been a treatment provider in clinical, forensic, and correctional settings.

The Founder of Modern Intimacy, Dr. Balestrieri is a passionate advocate for mental, relational and sexual health. Throughout her work, Dr. Balestrieri focuses on helping people build resilience and recovery from what ails them to move from a position of pain or discomfort to one of thriving, holistically in their lives. A sex positive provider and human, Dr. Balestrieri is dedicated to helping people have a more expansive and integrated relationship with sexuality.
