Totalitarian governments. Upbeat murder instructional videos. Violent transfer students. Pot lids.
Battle Royale was released in Japan during 2000 and immediately faced controversy for the portrayal of child violence. Certain Japanese government officials tried to ban the movie (as they had tried to ban the book of the same name) but this only led to increased popularity. The film became a hit in Japan and won multiple Japanese Oscars and became an instant cult-classic in the West.
Battle Royale is the story of Katniss Everdeen...sorry, it was too easy! Battle Royale is the story of a future totalitarian Japan in which one school class is selected each year to participate in the Battle Royale where one classmate must survive after all others have died. The students have to decide how what strategy to use to escape the Battle Royale and quick wits and quick trigger fingers are necessary to come out on top. We follow Shuya as he loses friends and tries to make sense of the game and protect the girl he loves.
Join the TPM crew as they debate the best Battle Royale weapon (pot lid!) and find out which of their guests is the most dangerous. After the debate, everyone makes an alliance against Hunger Games and reviews 2000's cult classic 'Battle Royale'.

Some obscene prank calls. Alcohol-hoarding house Moms. Creepy attics. One too many glass unicorns.
Black Christmas is the now-cult classic 1974 slasher from director Bob Clark. Clark not only directed the first seasonal slasher for Christmas but shockingly returned to Christmas as the director of the winter juggernaut A Christmas Story nine years later. Audiences in 1974 were shocked by this film's visceral first-person perspectives, blood-curdling phone calls and general mystery surrounding the antagonist. Despite lukewarm reception on release, Black Christmas has inspired countless slasher genre tropes and was a direct inspiration to Halloween four years later.
Black Christmas revolves around the events unfolding at a sorority house during winter break at a peaceful university. When sorority sister Claire goes missing and prank calls to the house become more and more obscene, the atmosphere in this college town turns dark. The police try to help the best they can, but things keep getting worse and worse until the shocking conclusion.
Join the TPM crew as they debate the most shocking slasher films and moments. After the debate everyone grabs some hidden alcohol bottles and answer the call to review festive slasher classic 'Black Christmas'.
