Floyd Mayweather Jr. has said he will be "one of the best trainers in the world" and follow in the footsteps of his late uncle.

Roger Mayweather, who trained Floyd Jr. for much of his career, had been ill for some time before he died in March following complications related to his diabetes.

Mayweather Jr. posted a video on Instagram of him training his 14-year-old nephew accompanied by a long caption about his own trainers.

"As many of you know, I've had incredible trainers which included my dad and uncle. Due to the recent passing of my Uncle Roger, I've felt inspired to help those around me the same way they have been there for me throughout my boxing career," he wrote. "In a time where we must distance ourselves from others, it has allowed me to reflect on how I want to make a difference in people lives and help them achieve their goals. A true trainer wants the best out of their fighter and pushes them to the best of their abilities.

"I want to leave an impression on those around me and allow them to see their potential.

"I am new at training and so far I've been working with people with no boxing experience, therefore we are growing together. But I promise you, I will be one of the best trainers in the world."
"My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring. Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing. Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace," Floyd Mayweather Jr. said in a statement following his death.

"Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world. It is a terrible loss for all of us."

Topics (4-9-2020)

1. Prograis takes to social media in order to urge Eddie Hearn to follow UFC's Dana White's "private island" model. Who's the most likely promoter to follow the lead? What promoters have the resources to pull off private island fights (money, investors, fighters/interesting fights, etc.)
2. Devin Haney reinstated as WBC champ. Fortuna's Promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, is asking for Luke Campbell before Haney fight. Mistake?
3. Todd DuBoef adds Jose Ramirez and Josh Taylor, also confirming Kell Brook, as options for Crawford's next fight. Which of these options gives Crawford the most clout at 147lbs?
4. Reynoso says they want GGG at 160lbs for Canelo, then they will weigh options before fully moving to 168lbs. After GGG, are there any must see fights for Canelo at 160lbs? Should he move up right away following GGG?
