  • David Avanesyan Sweeps Shane Mosley ? Tony Bellew-Ilunga Makabu Review
Shane Mosley was looking to become the mandatory challenger for the Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter welterweight title fight, but David Avanesyan ruined his plans by winning a well-deserved unanimous decision Saturday night. David Avanesyan defeated Shane Mosley by unanimous decision (114-113, 117-110, 117-110)
Former world champion Miguel "Titere" Vazquez (36-5, 13 KOs) defeated Ecuador's Erick Bone (16-4, 8 KOs) in a 10-round battle that headlined Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes Saturday night from the Dancehall in San Antonio.
The former champion from Mexico worked behind a strong jab and brought the fight to Bone throughout the main event. Bone was able to return fire and was effective at times when countering.
The jab of Vazquez eventually led to success with the right hand that was able to hurt his opponent and keep the battle-tested Bone from building momentum.
The fight featured many close rounds, which was reflected by the varied scores of the judges. In the end, all three had the fight for Vazquez by scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94.

  • Shane Mosley Title Eliminator For Thurman vs. Porter Winner Preview
On today’s show, Thaboxingvoice’s panel will discuss the somewhat shallow weekend of boxing featuring a couple of smaller TV fights. A PBC on FS1 event from San Antonio, Texas features a junior welterweight showdown between Miguel Vazquez and Erick Bone scheduled for 10 rounds. This will be Vazquez’s first venture at 140lbs while Bone has fought as high as junior middleweight against Shawn Porter, albeit in a late replacement scenario.

Vazquez, 1-2 in his last three outings, is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Argenis Mendez back in October of last year. Bone is in a similar situation, although he has lost two in a row. TBV will discuss the style matchup presented as well as the likely progress for the winner.

Shane Mosley is also in action this weekend as he squares off against David Avanesyan for Avanesyan's WBA interim welterweight title on CBS Sports Net. Mosley has said that, if successful, he will attempt to unify the interim WBA title with the full WBA title, who he will face will depend on the outcome of the highly anticipated Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter next month.
The rumors continue to swirl regarding a potential boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor. The panel will discuss the recent rumblings that suggest the fight will be announced shortly. However, it is already gaining attention from many celebrities. In fact, Sylvester Stallone recently commented on the potential outcome between Mayweather and McGregor. Does the panel agree with his assessment?
And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion.

  • Forget Canelo, Gennady Golovkin vs Erislandy Lara is What We Want ???
On today's show, the panel discusses the junior middleweight-heavy ShowTime card that featured three world title fights on the TV portion of the card.

The evening's main event was a rematch between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan. The two fought to a draw back in November of 2012, but Lara, regarded as the better fighter then and now, was able to finally put the dispute to bed with a typical Lara performance, for better or worse.

The Charlo brothers made history by becoming the first brothers to hold titles inside the 154lb (junior middleweight) division. Jermell won the vacant WBC 154lb title last night, his first world championship, against a very game John Jackson. If you'll remember, the WBC title at 154 was one of the titles that Floyd vacated upon retiring.

Jermall was in tough as well, but he successfully defended his IBF title against the veteran Austin Trout.

There was plenty of other action to discuss across the pond. David Haye and Shannon Briggs were both successful in separate bouts on their joint card, setting up a likely showdown between the two heavyweights.
However, it was Joseph Parker's IBF eliminator against Carlos Takam that held the most interest and prestige inside the heavyweight division. Parker was able to secure a unanimous decision, but the mixed reactions to his performance brought into question his validity right now amongst the division's best. Is Parker deserving of the hype still or has the wind come out the sails a bit?

  • Canelo Alvarez Duck Duck Gooselovkin " Give Me Belt"
Ring Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez today issued the following statement:

"After much consideration, today, I instructed my team at Golden Boy Promotions to continue negotiating a fight with Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin and to finalize a deal as quickly as possible.  I also informed the WBC that I will vacate its title.

For the entirety of my career, I have taken the fights that no one wanted because I fear no man. Never has that been more true than today. I will fight 'GGG,' and I will beat 'GGG' but I will not be forced into the ring by artificial deadlines.

I am hopeful that by putting aside this ticking clock, the two teams can now negotiate this fight, and 'GGG' and I can get in the ring as soon as possible and give the fans the fight they want to see."

Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya today issued the following statement:

"There is no denying that Canelo is the biggest star in the sport of boxing. He is eager to get in the ring with 'GGG' to show the world that he is also the best pound for pound fighter in the sport, but we won't negotiate under a forced deadline.

Now that the WBC title is off the table, I am hopeful that 'GGG' and his promoter K2 Promotions will come to the table in good faith and get this deal done."
and, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion.

  • Canelo Abandons WBC Title Charlo-Trout Lara-Martirosyan II
On today’s show, the panel will discuss the Showtime card featuring a junior middleweight title fight between Erislandy Lara (WBA) vs. Vanes Martirosyan at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas . This title fight is a rematch of their November 2012 fight, also in Las Vegas. We will hopefully get a definitive conclusion this time as the first fight was declared a draw.

The Showtime card is interesting as it will showcase five of the best 154lb fighters in the world. Jermall Charlo and Austin Trout make up the co-feature and Jermell Charlo squares off against John Jackson. There could be tremendous implications upon this card’s conclusion, specifically in regards to these fighters meeting up with one another.

May 21st was originally considered to be the weekend of the heavyweights as Deontay Wilder and Alexander Povetkin lead the charge, but with that fight canceled it appears as though the burden will fall on the shoulders of David Haye, Joseph Parker, Carlos Takam, and Shannon Briggs. Parker and Takam will be fighting for the right to face IBF champion Anthony Joshua, but Haye could steal AJ’s interest with a compelling fight. After all, AJ and Haye offer up one of the biggest UK fights that can be made today in the heavyweight division.

The hardcore weekend will continue with Denis Lebedev vs. Victor Emilio Ramirez in a WBA/IBF cruiserweight unification title fight.

  • Mayweather-McGregor: For Better or Worse?/Wilder-Povetkin-Should it Still Happen
Today’s show will also focus on Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s recent interview on this past Friday’s ShoBox card where he specifically spoke on a potential fight with Connor McGregor. Mayweather has confirmed the rumors on a potential fight with McGregor as he referred to the MMA fighter as the leading candidate. Floyd went as far as to say that McGregor is the only fighter being considered to bring the undefeated boxer out of retirement.

We will, of course, discuss the results of the ShoBox card as well as the BET card.

  • Canelo PPV Flopped or Not ?Andrew Tabiti vs. Keith Tapia Preview
On tonight’s episode, Thaboxingvoice’s panel of hosts discuss the underrated nature of this weekend’s fights, starting with tomorrow night’s ShoBox: The New Generation featuring a pair of cruiserweight fights. The main event on ShowTime will be between Andrew Tabiti and Keith Tapia in a 10 round fight with the co-feature between Michael Hunter vs. Isiah Thomas, also a 10 rounder.

On Saturday night, BET televises a showdown in the welterweight division between Dusty Hernandez-Harrison and Michael Dallas Jr. Last time we saw Harrison, he was making short wok of Angel Hernandez at the beginning of this year.

After taking nearly three years off, Dallas Jr. returned from his 2013 loss to Lucas Matthysse to fight to quick matchups back to back in November and December of last year. With nearly half a year gone, Dallas hopes to make a statement while Harrison looks to remain undefeated.

We will also continue to discuss the aftermath of Canelo-Khan with the aftermath surrounded around a fight with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Golovkin is hoping to land a major win against the most significant opponent of his career, and who just happens to be the most significant cash cow in boxing today- Canelo.

News and notes will be discussed further as we recap the week’s happenings.

And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion. • Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan Immediate Reactions to KO
Tonight we have a live post-fight show to get the reaction of the public for the knockout we just wittnessed.
    Amir Khan, 31-4, 19 KOs:
“I didn’t make it to the end, but I tried my best,” said Amir “King” Khan. “I want to be the best, and I want to fight the best. That is why I took this fight.

  • Canelo vs. Khan Report: Khan Hospitalized After Devastatingly Brutal 6 Rd KO
After a stellar weekend of boxing, Thaboxingvoice Radio Show will offer up its analysis of every major card and significant fight. The show will lead with the most attention-grabbing result of the weekend—Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s 6th round destruction over Amir Khan in Las Vegas at the new T-Mobile Arena.

Canelo-Khan was the first boxing event to be held at the new arena and it did not disappoint. Fans were treated to a tremendous, if not predictable, fight. Most fans were in agreeance, initially, that the fight would be one-sided and ultimately end in a KO. But the closer the fight got the more fans and media began to believe in Khan’s chances.

On last week’s preview show, Khan believers/supporters were out in abundance, but will they show up to take their crow after picking the UK fighter?

With three of the four fights on the PPV televised portion of the card ending in KO/TKO, the panel will have plenty to discuss.

There was also a tremendous UK card involving Anthony Crolla’s successful title defense over Ismael Barroso. Most assumed that Barroso, the harder hitter of the two, would be the one to score a stoppage, but it was, in fact, Crolla who was able to stop Barroso in the 7th round. On the same televised card from a split-site in Germany, Kubrat Pulev won a split decision victory over Dereck Chisora.

And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion. And remember you can express your opinion in writing by becoming part of the team and writing for the site- contact Mario Mungia or Nestor Gibbs at [email protected]. • Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Amir King Khan Weigh-In Results Khan 155Lbs.
On today’s show, the panel will discuss the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Amir Khan middleweight title fight. Canelo will be defending his lineal WBC title against the welterweight moving up two weight classes. With both fighters weighing in at 155lb weight limit, it will be interesting to see how well Khan carries the weight and whether or not Canelo is prepared to fight a fighter that is his weight equivalent, if not his size.

With fighters like David Lemieux and Frankie Gomez missing weight recently in their past outings, it was a treat to see all the fighters make weight including the aforementioned.

The undercard will be a real treat as Mauricio Herrera battles Gomez at welterweight. However, it will be the middleweight division that is showcased as Patrick Teixeira steps up to a significant level in his career, both in platform and competition, as he takes on Curtis Stevens.

However, the co-feature could offer a glimpse into the opponent choice for Canelo’s September fight when Lemieux takes on Glen Tapia. The winner of this fight will likely take on Canelo if Gennady Golovkin isn’t chosen next.
