In this week's episode, we take you to New Orleans, Louisiana.
Aka "The Big Easy", it's much more well known for its round-the-clock nightlife, vibrant live-music scene, spicy cuisine...and of course raucous costumed parades and street parties, like the annual Mardi Gras festival.
It’s easy to forget, or perhaps even...ignore...the terrifying things lurking in the shadows of New Orleans.
There are a few cryptid creatures that garner most of the attention in and around this area of Louisiana...
the Rougarou or the Honey Island Swamp Monster for example…
But legend has it that there is something perhaps even more terrifying in NOLA.
Something that’s been there ever since the Big Easy’s beginning…
This is THE LEGEND OF THE GRUNCH ROAD MONSTER…

June 21, 2021 S1 E42: The Burning, Cropsey, and The Summer Camp Slasher Legend
It's a solid fact that we can't talk about summer camp without also talking about one of our favorite subgenres of horror movies...
the Summer Camp Slasher!

Let's face it - we grew up with some great, iconic franchises in the Summer Camp Slasher genre. The first few that come to mind of course being the FRIDAY THE 13TH movies and SLEEPAWAY CAMP - but, we wanted to find some really good from the '80s that we hadn't necessarily seen yet.

We immediately stumbled across THE BURNING - a 1981 release that neither of us had watched before. We thought this episode was going to just be about our thoughts on that movie, and why we love the subgenre...

Instead, we uncovered an urban legend called "The Cropsey Maniac", that potentially spawned all of these Summer Camp Slasher movies and the campfire tales we all grew up listening to ourselves.

If that wasn't enough we also uncovered a 2009 documentary called "CROPSEY" - written and directed by Joshua Zeman & Barbara Brancacci who realizing the urban legend of their youth has actually come true; delve into the even more terrifying mystery surrounding five missing children and the real-life boogeyman linked to their disappearances.

Get ready to laugh as we go over some of our own personal summer camp experiences.
Get ready to get spooky as we talk about the monster lurking outside your tents...and as always, BE RAD!

May 17, 2021 S1 E37: Bigfoot Abduction - The Albert Ostman Story
In 1924 deep within the dense wilderness of British Columbia, one of the most unique encounters with Bigfoot occurred...
A young hardworking lumberman named Albert Ostman, ventured out on his own after deciding to do a bit of gold prospecting around the Toba Inlet, situated on the B.C. coast.

At first, things were going perfectly. He'd hiked for several days, witnessed awe-inspiring scenery, and finally found what seemed to be a perfect campsite to build his home base for the next several weeks he'd planned to stay.
This was just the kind of break he'd been looking for from his years of hard work in construction and lumber.
Rumors of gold had led him to this area, and he planned on doing his best to find some of his own.

About a week later a few lumberjacks noticed a disheveled man wandering out of the woods. Clearly hungry and visibly shaken, the lumberjacks took him in, fed him, and gave him shelter. It was Albert Ostman, who explained that he'd gotten lost while out prospecting for gold.

It wasn't until nearly 30 years later that Ostman finally told the truth about what happened to him on that trip...and on this week's show, we talk about this absolutely fascinating encounter.
Albert Ostman was awoken in the middle of the night and carried away while still in his sleeping bag by...a Sasquatch!

The list of movies that were released in 1986 is insane, and, so many movies that were released that year had a gigantic impact on our life.
This week we're talking about a movie from 1986 that, for numerous reasons, we fell in love with immediately when we saw it.
In this episode, we’re talking about THE FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida...the 4th of July, 1978...
12-year-old David Freeman walks through the woods to pick up his 8-year-old younger brother, Jeff, from a friend's house when he accidentally falls into a ravine and is knocked unconscious. When he comes to, he discovers that eight years have passed and it is now 1986.

This movie has it all: loss of time, alien spacecraft, action, adventure, silly dialogue, an awesome soundtrack, '80s NASA and is full of RAD STRANGENESS + waves of nostalgia. You literally couldn't ask for more!

So, grab a can of New Cokes, pop some popcorn, snag a bag of your favorite candy, and let's get ready to remember one of the great movies from our childhood together: THE FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR.

Every year since at least 1981 a strange, cryptic “ad” can be found inside the pages of “The Daily Wildcat” - the University of Arizona’s student newspaper.
On May 1st, 1981 a seemingly simple, and mysterious photo - a combination of English letters and Chinese symbols was published.
The picture itself could have easily been overlooked or perhaps even ignored, and if that had been the only one of its kind...we’d wager it would have been.
But, that’s not what happened.
Every year since, on May 1st, a new ad can be found...more complex...more intricate...more mysterious...more strange, and thus The May Day Mystery was born.
Who is spending the money to have these ads published?
What does each strange mix of symbols, geographical coordinates, pictures, equations, quotes, and phrases mean?
What is that strange smiley face that is seemingly scribbled on each?
Who is “THE ORPHANAGE” - the group or individual who claim to be behind it all?
