  • Kelly Rowland: It Starts with Mom

Hi everyone. I’m Kanika Chadda Gupta. I’m a television journalist, podcast host of “That’s Total Mom Sense,” wife and mom of three. I am having a fangirl moment right now because I am with the beautiful, talented singer, songwriter, actress, and author who has grown up alongside us.

She’s been singing her whole life and began her musical career as a founding member of Destiny’s Child and here we are with children of our own. I’m about to “say her name, say her name.”

Kelly Rowland is an American singer, performer, songwriter, actress, and television personality. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. She soon released her debut solo studio album, Simply Deep in 2002, debuting at #1 on the UK Albums Chart and sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Rowland eventually became a judge on the eighth season of The X Factor (UK version), as well as the 3rd season of The X Factor (USA) in 2013. She has continued her television career by hosting Chasing Destiny, and starred as a coach on The Voice (Australia).

Throughout her career, Rowland has sold 40M+ records as a solo artist, and an additional 60M+ records with Destiny's Child. She's won 4 Grammy Awards, 1 Billboard Music Award, and 2 Soul Train Music Awards — she's also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of Destiny's Child, and as a solo artist, she has been honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Essence for her contributions to music. In 2014, Fuse ranked Rowland in their "100 Most Award-Winning Artists" list.

Kelly and her husband Tim Weatherspoon have two sons, Titan and Noah. In 2022, she released her children’s book, Always with You, Always with Me.

      • Dr. Lynne Coy Ogan: Teacher Appreciation Week — Reconnecting With My Second Grade Teacher

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week the first of May so I wanted to honor my favorite teacher. She’s my 2nd teacher, who to me was Miss Coy, and is now Dr. Lynn Coy-Ogan.

It’s true that the most formative years in a child’s life are 0-6 and to have met her during this impressionable time was transformative for me. She was warm, kind, funny, encouraging, and treated us like autonomous human beings with opinions and ideas and has gone on to make an impact in her community and as a mother in numerous ways over the years.

                • Rupa Mehta: Embracing Generational Bonds

Creator of the renowned fitness class Nalini Method and the national education nonprofit NaliniKIDS, Rupa Mehta has been featured on the Kelly and Michael Show, NBC, Fox 5 Morning News, and in Vogue Magazine, the New York Times, Forbes Magazine, and countless others. Her signature approach to wellness is exemplified by a focus on both physical and emotional health. Coined the “mommy transformer” by Urban Baby when she helped shape up new moms in no time, Rupa is now teaching us how to transform our perspective on the parent-child relationship with her fresh take on modern motherhood with her new book: someone calls me mommy.

"I don't want to take a nappie, my rain boots are happy."

Celebrated educator and author, Rupa Mehta, heard those gleeful words from her toddler last year after a long morning of puddle-jumping. That innocent, simple and poetic sentence reminded Rupa of her late mother, Nalini, who sadly passed away a year prior. Inspired by her mom and daughter’s uncanny similarities, Rupa tapped into her child’s emerging voice and began profusely writing poetry from her and her daughter’s perspective.

What started out as a cathartic, artistic journey evolved into a book of 100 poems and illustrations with a fresh new take on modern motherhood: someone calls me mommy. Covering subjects that range from breast feeding and swaddling to first words and birthdays, Rupa’s unforgettable cadence and candor capture the precious, ironic, comical and fleeting moments of motherhood.

                      • Brittany VanMatre: Celebs Open Their Closets for Sustainable Fashion

Brittany VanMarte grew up in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. She is the daughter of musician Don Henley of The Eagles fame. Brittany graduated from Concordia University with a bachelor’s degree in Business, then getting her M.A in Visual and Media Arts from Emerson College. After working in the entertainment industry, herself, Brittany saw firsthand how many clothes and accessories were gifted to celebrities and their children that would eventually go unused. Following a conversation with her best friend, Eva Longoria, she came up with the initial concept for her company Spin & Give. Spin & Give is an e-commerce consignment platform where celebrities and entertainment personalities can donate clothing. The profits would go toward a charity of their choice. Spin & Give works with a number of charities who support women, children, LGBTQ communities, the environment and so many other worthy causes. Spin & Give sheds light on the importance of sustainability and donation through reselling stylish clothing to those in need. Celebrity donors include Victoria Beckham, Reese Witherspoon, Sheryl Crow and more. Prior to starting Spin & Give, she spent seven years serving on the board of Kids in A New Groove which is a program that is committed to one-on-one mentoring relationships through free weekly, private music lessons. Brittany’s mission for Spin & Give is to help reduce the waste of clothes and textiles, give clothes more lives with resale and to keep them out of landfills, all while giving back to other charities in need. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Gary, and four-year old son, Miles, and staying in shape by swimming and doing Pilates. Meet My Guest:
