For many people, visions of our future in space consist of rotating spacecraft, lunar greenhouses and domed habitats.
But if you’re dreaming of a new life beyond the Earth, you might want to rethink things. Lava tubes on the Moon could become the prime real estate of the future!

Special Guest: This week, we are SUPER excited to welcome author Andy Weir (The Martian, @andyweirauthor ) back to the show to chat with us about his new book, ARTEMIS. Viewers who have seen Andy's first appearance on our show on January 9, 2015, (https://youtu.be/oSuLB3hYbmc) will remember just how awesome he is as a guest - and why we can't wait to catch up with him this week.
Andy began his career as a software engineer but wrote science fiction stories in his spare time. His novel, THE MARTIAN, was a blockbuster success which has allowed him to pursue his writing full-time. He is a lifelong space nerd and a devoted hobbyist of subjects such as relativistic physics, orbital mechanics, and the history of manned spaceflight.
You can learn more about Andy and his books on his website:

Dr. Al Grauer hosts. Dr. Albert D. Grauer ( @Nmcanopus ) is an observational asteroid hunting astronomer. Dr. Grauer retired from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006.
Today's 2 topics:
- World View Enterprises in Tucson is a balloon company that will take a science package or even you to the edge of space. For a price. Cheaper than a rocket, though!
- Greg Leonard of Catalina Sky Survey discovered tiny asteroid 2017 EA. It came 9,000 miles from our atmosphere, a close call indeed.

Are you confused about the purpose of telescope mounts? What about eyepieces? What are they for? Watch today's hangout to learn more!
As with any hobby, there's never any shortage of choices for accessories and amateur astronomy is no different. There are mount designs galore to choose from, but which ones are best?
Eyepieces are also plentiful, they are so important that they can give you the best views you've ever had through your telescope or ruin you night completely. But which ones should you own?
In this hangout, Tony Darnell, Adam (Synergy) Smith and John Suffill help you navigate these issues. Learn about the best eyepieces for observing the planets, deep-sky objects and more. We'll also go into the topic of field of view and magnification.

Joining us today is Dr. John Whelan, Principal Investigator of RIT's group in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC).
