Like so many in 2020 the Covid shutdown drastically changed Liz's professional career and life and during that time on a whim she sought out nature and climbed Mt Marcy and the Adirondack Mountains did what the Adirondack Mountains do; captured her heart and completely changed her life forever. Liz's journey from the high-end fashion industry of New York City to climbing High Peaks in the dead of winter in a few short months time is an inspiring story and Liz is the definition of seeking refuge in nature and from there the mountains will do the rest. In this unique Summit Session I have the privilege of speaking to director and filmmaker, Seth Breedlove, of Small Town Monsters, to discuss his latest film entitled "On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Journey" which came out this week. If you've followed this podcast long enough you'll know I thoroughly enjoy two things; the Adirondacks and Bigfoot, and this documentary combines those two things.

In this new Summit Session Spotlight I'll shine the light on another person who got creative with the outdoors right in their own backyard. This week's spotlight is on Paul Fuzinski, host of the Aptitude Outdoors Podcast, who decided to paddle the 137-mile Maumee River from end to end simply because "he could". Not because it was some sought after local accomplishment to achieve but simply to do something fun and different in the outdoors right in his home state. All it takes is a little creativity, and some will, to have an outdoors adventure wherever you call home.

In this Summit Session I'll talk with Tim and Henry Horvath, a father-son hiking duo who recently completed an unsupported winter thruhike of the 138-mile Northville-Placid Trail and in doing so set the Fastest Known Time (FKT) at 7 days 9 hours 0 minutes. Tim and Henry are accomplished hikers and we break down their trip from the planning, to the gear they brought, and go day by day through their incredible winter adventure across the Adirondack Park's most remote land.

In this first "Summit Sessions Spotlight" episode I'll be putting the spotlight on a man named Brian Shultis who got creative and sought out a new way to explore his home state of New Jersey by climbing all 51 peaks over 1,000' elevation. This creative adventure took Brian to entirely new places he had never been (and wouldn't have explored otherwise) ultimately giving him a newfound appreciation of the great outdoors in his home state.

This new "Summit Sessions Spotlight" series moves beyond the Blue Line of the Adirondack Park and exists to highlight people getting creative in the outdoors and exploring their own backyards in new ways to create unique outdoors adventures. With the big news out of the High Peaks Region this week it felt appropriate to dedicate an episode discussing the newly announced "Pilot Reservation System" to be implemented starting May 1st, 2021 at the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (AMR) trailhead. In this February episode I'm throwing it back to warmer days; a Summer-time hike where the gang and I set out to bushwhack up the 45th tallest mountain in the state, Green Mountain. Though not an official "High Peak" Green is taller than multiple High Peaks and is a mountain without a trail therefore requiring bushwhacking and off trail navigational skills through its thick evergreen woods to the summit of this mysterious mountain.
