This week, Taylor talks to movement and life coach, Phil Hulford, about the importance of presence, and why the present is so precious, the power of acknowledging fear, and how we can use movement itself to generate the energy that anchors us to a moment.
To make the most of where we're at, it's incredibly important to be aware of how present we are and enjoy the now. We need to shake away the cares of the past, and release our minds from thinking about the future. Be present whenever possible. The first step in conquering fear is to acknowledge it, and to recognise that it moves with us throughout each day. If we can identify it, then we can separate from it.Movement is our own way of physically connecting to a moment - it is the generating of energy that establishes us in the here and now.Society seems to have created the notion that men must always push harder in order to grow and develop. We must recalibrate sometimes, which requires us to stop and appreciate.'Presence is something that I'm learning to cultivate, as everybody is. It's an ongoing thing because it's always "now"'
'Part of who I am is to explore movement as a way to heal the body - as a way to recirculate and recycle energy so that we don't waste it, but use it as a way to charge. And also to connect'
'You've got to know how to work hard and you've got to be willing to get yourself to do things that you don't want to do sometimes. But there's a very real balance to be found between the yin and yang - between the relaxing, the resting and the pushing'
'If you watch children, when they see a wall they'll jump straight on it and walk. Or they'll see physical challenges and just do them. They don't have to be taught. They just enjoy the exploration'
'In my work, in my life, I can get very outside of where I am and think about all the things I didn't do, or all the things I want to do'
'It's very important to have someone you're accountable to for all things. Your goals, your relationship'
