Awesome to be joined this week by Nikki from The Bookish Mindset. Having grown up with a huge passion for reading, Nikki, like many others, decided to spend more time pursuing her passion and turning it into something during lockdowns last year. We discussed why so many people have done this, and how amazing it is that these positives have come out of such a terrible time. We discussed why reading is often viewed as uncool among younger people, the differences between fiction and non-fiction and why people feel so much pressure to read non-fiction self help books all the time these days. Full disclosure, I've only started reading again this year after not really reading at all since childhood. With me being in this mental health space I felt the pressure to be reading self help books, trying to better myself and mindset etc. But if I'm honest, they kinda just cooked my brain a bit and actually made me feel a bit worse about myself. So instead I've been really enjoying reading fiction again. It was great getting Nikki's advice and insight about reading when it comes to mental health and all of this. It's always just awesome having a conversation with someone who's really passionate about something. Nikki is definitely that, you can tell she lives and breathes books. As I say all the time on the pod, having a passion is so essential in life for our mental health.
