  • He Said/She Said : Divorce is a Worldwide Epidemic for both Women and Men

Share in a few minutes with Mick and Kindra as they reflect on how Leanne is not only helping women and men in a divorce, but she counsels them worldwide from Dubai, India, Pakistan, Australia and the Americas. In addition, we talk about how you can start to heal yourself after a divorce.

Most men but not exclusively so, are harmed by divorce.

Divorce and custody is an international and growing problem.

There are cultural differences based on a nation's legal system and what part of the world people are from.

Children often come on their own to the alienated parent.

The biggest way to heal is to do things for yourself and normal activities.

Find a support group that understands your situation.

Avoid artificial stimulants such as chemicals, drugs, and alcohol.

In an early part of relationships, trust your gut if you feel something is off or wrong.

Seek professional help or counseling for assistance; even one session might be the answer.

Give yourself a year to eighteen months before moving in or marrying again.

Never couple for financial reasons that is not a good reason to move in with someone.

Take longer before making a commitment to someone if children are involved.

A professional can discern between narcissism, abuse, and the person should take responsibility for their situation.

There are individual programs geared from men and women; bear in mind gender differences regarding trauma.

There are modules and individual programs for blended families, work for parent's, and children's issues.

Parents must remain the boss to children and stepchildren.

Join Kindra and Mick as they dig deep into a conversation with Leanne Kanzler as they talk divorce disasters and how to heal.

Psychologist, Coach, TEDx Speaker, #1 Best Selling Author

Life has not always been as clear as it is now. In fact at the time my marriage of 17 years fell apart I really didn’t know what was in store for me. Today, 10 years since those days of anxiety, depression and fighting, my ex and I are both in a much better place.

Now, I regularly work with others who have been in the same situation. I get it, from a personal and professional perspective. I have years of training in working with people who have experienced trauma, relationship issues, including breakups, and much, much more.

In working on myself I realized where I went wrong, in my marriage, and other relationships after that. I learned how to speak my truth. I set clear boundaries for what I wanted in life and I didn’t compromise on that. And that is when everything started to work out for me, and I know it can for you too.

  • He Said/She Said : Divorce Questions Answered

Kindra Riber and Mick Smith talk divorce, custody and family trauma today on The Aftermath Podcast.

    Answered audience questions:

Although divorced, people can change and improve their behavior.

As defined, Parental Alienation Syndrome ( PAS) entails an intentional process directed against the other parent.

The medical community has been against defining PAS as a syndrome.

Some experts though are advocating PAS in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).

Since the custody process is broken the alienated parent should document, with others, and use tangible evidence for change.

The targeted parent may be ordered more time by the Court.

The dysfunctional parent can manipulate the Court to alienate the other parent.

Four basic child behaviors to be aware of: first, mental health, depression, and anxiety; second, behavioral issues, impulsive, delinquent; third, academic, risk-taking behavior, use of chemicals, drugs, alcohol, and early sexual activity.

As adults, if issues are unresolved, the same problems will crop back up.

The stable, disciplining parent may lose out early on but long-term the child often returns to the alienated parent.

The alienated parent should communicate as able. Be reassuring and loving.

The best way to re-engage is to be authentic, and share your perspective and emotions; you are a part of this process.

Seek an empathetic support network because people often do not understand what you are experiencing nor do they know how to help.

Advocate local legislation to improve the custody process. Learn more about your hosts Mick Smith and Kindra Riber. • He Said/ She Said : How Our Childhood Is Changed By Divorce

Childhood can be marred by divorce as JC's was; so what can be done?

    1. An interesting quote was revealed: "messed up but now blessed up."

    2. JC advises an integrated life, even if you have a good career, prioritize your family.

    3. If needed, seek a mental health professional.

    4. A professional can assist in discovering a key time, what JC described as a "snap" moment which was the basis of his trauma during his parent's divorce.

    5. Look for a ladder out of difficulties realizing it is not your fault.

    6. During JC's divorce your Ex can be your best friend even if divorce ensures.

    7. Both parents should prioritize the children.

    8. Work outside the Courts if possible.

    9. Teach children to respect parents equally; clarify parental roles: caregiver & breadwinner.

    10. Viktor Frankl, the Austrian psychiatrist, suggests checking your response and not reacting simply on the basis of your emotions.

    11. A father should show a daughter how a man should be and how he should act.

    12. If broken by life, break the cycle of trauma.

    13. Be kind rather than right all the time.

    14. Problems are God's way of pruning you.

    15. Slay your dragons by embracing problems and working through them; make them your roommates.

  • He Said/ She Said: How Parents Are Screwing Up Their Children During Divorce with G. Mick Smith and Kindra Riber

Divorce is difficult. Custody battles are painful- and parental alienation is a systematic form of abuse. Listen to Kindra and Mick unpack the 10 biggest lessons they learned from their guest Michele Fineran.

    10 Takeaways:

    1. The definition of Parental Alienation Syndrome has changed and is recognized now.

    2. Many children return to the alienated parent as they get older.

    3. There are age-appropriate differences in healing children from custody and alienation: youngest children fear a loss of parent's love, grade-age kids blame failure on themselves, and teenagers are often angry.

    4. Co-parenting and cooperation is ideal for all children to experience.

    5. Children tend to align with the disciplining parent.

    6. Likewise, children favor identifying with same-sex parents, boys with fathers, and girls with mothers.

    7. The Law might help to co-parent with a narcissistic parent.

    8. Single-parent households, particularly mothers with boys, often lack the ability to discipline effectively.

    9. The "Ronald McDonald" parent is favored by children in the short term but over the long term, the disciplinarian is respected by kids.

    10. Parents should set an example of positive role models for children to be healthy adults.
