Can you really do an audio review of a photo editing program? Sure you can.

I've been working with Luminar for quite some time now. And as an editor I really enjoy the software. The latest feature which will be available in a few short days is a new Library for Luminar. You can now save your images into Luminar itself, which is a great leap forward. For many people, the hope is that Luminar can become a replacement for Adobe's Lightroom.

Today it is not that replacement, but it may become a contender in the next 6 months. At present for my purposes, I'll continue using Lightroom as my photo management platform of choice. And I'll continue using Skylume's Aurora HDR and Luminar 3 as plugins to Lightroom.

Do I like Luminar? Yes. Do I think the new version with libraries will assist in my current photo editing workflow? No.

Over the weekend I spent some time working with the new Luminar 3 photo editing program. I've been looking forward to the new version, so I ended up recording 3 videos about the good stuff and the bad stuff. And that work over the weekend inspired me to do something different this morning.

Not only is there an audio podcast here, but I also filmed the making of the podcast and it will be up on YouTube this afternoon or tomorrow! Just trying something different. You've gotta mix things up now and again, right?

Before getting into today's show notes I want to share an anniversary with you. 45 years ago on December 7th, 1973 my mom underwent the start of her bone marrow transplant. She would have died without it. So on the anniversary of her transplant I wanted to take a moment to remember her and to be thankful that I had her in my life 25 years longer than I was supposed to.

For today's show we're talking work in the digital realm. I recently applied for a part time job with a company here in Arizona. They're looking for a Graphic Designer. I am not a graphic designer. So why would I apply for the job? Well, the job description includes website design, Search Engine Optimization, Social Media expertise, photographic expertise..... oh, and some graphic design. I'm not kidding you.

The job description encompasses 4 actual full time jobs easily. And they're looking for 1 person part time to do it all. Unrealistic? Yes. But also an opportunity for me to help educate them on what their priorities are, and see if my skill set could fit in with them. Am I hopeful about getting a call back? 50 / 50 really. I might be a little over qualified, and often I've found here in AZ that if you look over qualified you don't even get a phone call back. We'll have to wait and see.

Today's episode was inspired by visiting many RVs yesterday while waiting on my Airstream repair. So many new RVs include solar pre-wire setups. But the question is, are these solar setups good enough to run all the amazing tech inside new RV's? The short answer from my time looking in so many new models is no.

If you're shopping for a new RV and plan on camping off grid, get your questions ready for your RV dealership. Be sure to get educated responses to your solar questions. And if you don't get them, do some more up front research before making your purchase decision.

Fingers crossed that the new hot water heater is trouble free.

Big software updates always make me a little nervous. Back in 2016 a major update to a software package I use for web development broke every website I tried it on. Turned out the developer didn't fully beta test the update, and it cost me weeks of my time.

The folks who make Wordpress, a favorite web development tool, are pushing out a huge update to the platform this week, and that makes me nervous! Fortunately I don't update client websites until I see that the updates don't destroy my websites. So RLC Design is always the test platform. Good for my clients, painful for me.

I've recorded one advertisement for Anchor.fm, and one for Flipboard.com. Just another revenue stream that adds to my overall business. Not a bad idea at all.
