House sitting is a topic that has not been discussed on the podcast yet before. It is also something that I have not seen being discussed very much among travel influencers. However, I've come to learn that there are many opportunities available for travelers to live in places long term and have free room and board through house sitting. My guest today is such a traveler. In this episode, I'm joined by fellow travel blogger and podcaster, Samantha Anthony.

Samantha is the creator and author of Alternative Travelers. A travel blog through which she shares her insights on house sitting, sustainable travel, and traveling as a vegan. She also has The Alternative Travelers Podcast, which she runs along with her cohost and partner, Veren. For Samantha, traveling began at a very young age, with her mother instilling a sense of adventure by taking her and her sister to different parts of Europe.

Later on down the road, Samantha sought out more ways to get out and travel. This included living in Spain for three years as an expat teaching English. She also spent some time working as an archaeologist. And conducted fieldwork in both Spain, Portugal, and New York City. And now she, along with her partner, have lived in multiple places around the US and Europe through house sitting.

In this episode, Samantha tells us more about her story. Talking about her experiences with house sitting and going over how you too can see the world through house sitting. We also discuss many things that have not been brought up on the podcast before!

We've all had mornings when it was a struggle to get out of bed! However, struggling to do one of the very first things that we have to do each morning. Can set us up to struggle for the remainder of the day! I've noticed this first hand during a recent trip to Mississippi to do archaeological fieldwork. And I've found that there was a very distinct difference between how I performed on the days that I got out of bed right away, versus the days when I struggled to do so.

In this episode of Travel Reflections, I talk about four strategies that I used to get out of bed during this trip. As well as how you can implement them in order to get up out of bed and conquer your day!

When it comes to getting the most out of our adventures, it works in our favor to travel light. When we have fewer things with us when we travel, we can focus on what we're there for and our trip will be less stressful. I've noticed myself, for whenever I travel, I only have what I can fit into a 40-liter carry-on bag. My guest today also experienced the benefits of traveling light and has sought to develop unique clothing options to help others travel more with less. In this episode, I'm joined by world traveler and entrepreneur, Wen Muenyi.

Wen is the founder and CEO of HercLéon. An innovative clothing company that produces self-cleaning clothes for travelers and everyday people alike. Though prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Wen's story begins in Cameroon, where he grew up. After being encouraged by his mother, he made his way out into the world and started traveling. Since then, Wen has covered a lot of ground and eventually made his way to Minnesota, where he currently resides.

Along the way, Wen sought to find a solution to a problem that we all face, especially while traveling. Which is that our clothes can quickly and easily get dirty, smell bad, and require washing. Though oftentimes while we're out traveling, laundry facilities can be hard to come by. In order to address this problem, Wen began looking for ways to make clothes that can resist odor and don't require washing. Making it much more convenient for travelers, as well as being more sustainable for the environment. And thus... HercLéon was born!

In this episode, Wen tells us more about his story. Talking about his time growing up in Cameroon, to venturing out into the world, and the founding of HercLéon. We also have some great discussions about how to travel light and the benefits of doing so!

Halloween may be over, and I'm saddened that we have to wait a whole year until my all-time favorite holiday comes again! But I have one last spooky travel story to share with you all! For this third and final installment of Spooky Tales From Afar, we're heading to central North Carolina. It was in the small town of Bear Creek where I went to explore a place that has been subject to local legends and lore. A place that has come to be known as The Devil's Tramping Ground.

While walking on the ground, an unusual, and very creepy, thing happened. An occurrence that made me wonder if a dark entity was around me!

Perhaps the most impactful chapters of my life were the times that I had spent living abroad. It was during these times when I learned so much about myself and grew exponentially as a person. My guest today also experienced this during her own stints as an expatriate on two different continents. In this episode, I'm joined by travel blogger, serial expat, and coach, Lauren Bonheim.

Lauren is the creator and the author of the travel blog, Lauren on Location. A blog through which she shares stories about her adventures with living abroad, and coaches others on how to do the same. Following a study abroad to Spain while she was in college. Lauren sought out other opportunities to continue living as an expatriate. This led her to Chile, where she lived for three whole years! Now she has returned to Spain and currently resides in Madrid.

Throughout her time traveling and living abroad, Lauren has had some amazing experiences and learned how to live life on her own terms. Though this has not always been an easy journey, and it came with some tough decisions. One of them being her passing up a potential dream job in New York to book a one-way ticket to Spain. Though the risk paid off, and now Lauren is finding fulfillment with living as an expatriate and helping others through her coaching.

In this episode, Lauren tells us more about her story. Talking about her time living abroad, the memories that she made, and the life lessons that she's learned. We're getting closer to Halloween, my all-time favorite holiday! So let's keep the spooky travel stories going! For this second installment of Spooky Tales From Afar, we're heading to the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was there when I took part in perhaps the greatest ghost walking tour that I've ever done, put on by the City of the Dead tour company.

And it was during that tour when I heard one of the scariest stories that I ever heard. A story that literally sent a chill down my spine in a way that no story has done before. A story that made me wonder just what might be lurking in the darkness around every corner!

I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to world travel. With my first international trip being to Japan when I was 25 years. My guest today also started traveling later in her life and has already covered a lot of ground since she began traveling about six years ago. In this episode, I'm joined by Kerry Macuska; a travel blogger, digital nomad, and avid Liverpool Football Club supporter.

Kerry is the creator and the author of the travel blog, Kerry Somewhere. A blog through which she shares travel tips, inspiration, and her love for Liverpool FC with her audience. Following a trip to India for her job, she gained a passion for travel. From there she went on to pursue traveling more in-depth and has now been to over 50 countries and 40 US states. With many of her trips being back and forth to Liverpool to attend football games! Now she travels full-time as a digital nomad.

Throughout her travels, Kerry has checked some amazing experiences off of her bucket list. Some of these include; tracking mountain gorillas in Central Africa and komodo dragons in Indonesia, among others. With some of her most recent trips taking place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Along the way, she's also come to embrace a more minimalistic lifestyle. And has found that her life was enhanced in many ways once she had less material possessions.

In this episode, Kerry tells us more about her story. Talking about some of the places that she's been able to travel to, and some of the amazing experiences that she's had. It is now the month of Halloween! A little known fact about me, Halloween is my favorite holiday! I've always enjoyed spooky stuff when I was a kid. This was an interest that I continued to pursue as I got older and began traveling around the world. Whenever I visit a city or some other place that offers a ghost tour or some other kind of spooky experience, I'm very likely to buy a ticket! There have also been times when I will seek out a creepy place or experience willingly, or just happen to come across one!

To coincide with my love for Halloween, this month I'll be sharing some spooky experiences from my adventures! To kick this off, we're heading to rural Michigan, where I grew up! When I was a kid, something happened there one night during winter. Something that even to this day makes me wonder if there's an actual monster lurking in the woods near my childhood home!

Traveling can allow us to gain a greater perspective on the world, as well as ourselves. This was especially the case for me during my time in The Gambia as a Peace Corps volunteer. My guest today also experienced this as he traveled around the world in order to be of service to others. In this episode, I'm joined by Jason Nacey; obstacle course racer, Ironman finisher, and traveling philanthropist.

I first met Jason at the Spartan Media Fest and the Spartan World Championships in Lake Tahoe last year. During those events, he told me a little bit about some of the service trips that he's taken around the world as part of the USANA Foundation. This has led him to some amazing places. Including a remote village high up in the mountains of Nepal following an earthquake. As well as to Thailand to help out at a shelter that housed children who were rescued from human trafficking.

These types of trips were eye-opening for Jason. He saw what it was like for other people around the world. Many of whom have to commit so much time and effort just to fulfill their basic needs. He also saw how difficult it was for people to recover from things like natural disasters when they had very few resources or government aid available to them. And after each trip, he returned home with not only a greater sense of self, but also a greater sense of gratitude for what he has in his life.

In this episode, Jason tells us more about his story. Talking about some of the places that he's had the opportunity to travel to, and the people that he's been able to serve. We also have a great discussion on perspective, and why we should be grateful for the things that we have!

In order to cope with the challenging lifestyle that I had as a Peace Corps volunteer. I adopted a consistent morning routine in order to start my days on a positive note. Although I'm no longer serving as a volunteer. Some of the things that were part of my morning routine then, have carried over and are part of my morning routine now. In this first episode of my new series, Travel Reflections, I talk about my mornings during my Peace Corps service. I also share which aspects I still practice today and how they could be beneficial things to incorporate into your own morning routine.
