The Anglo-Italian Pod episodes

  • Season 02 - Ep. 68 - F*ck off. Bob.
The time has come, it's our final show of the season and well it's been emotional!

We start with an eternal night in Tirana as Roma end a 14 year wait for silverware as they lift they inaugural Conference League title. What does this mean for Mourinho's legacy and Ruairi's opinion of him? We then focus on a tense and peak Mourinho performance, we focus on the key moments from the game as well as the key players across the game and Roma's season as a whole. Then finally we discuss the success of the Conference League, was it actually a good idea from UEFA?!?!?! Then there's just enough time to preview the play-offs in The Championship and Serie B as well as of course this weekend's Champions League Final.

In our weekly topic it's time for our end of season Anglo-Italian Pod Awards, with some predictable and some less so, how many do you agree with? Has Ruairi lost his mind?

We finally want to thank everyone who has listened, shared, liked, interacted and told people about our little pod, without your support it would all feel much more difficult so thank you again, and we will see you in August, and of course enjoy the episode!!

[This episode was recorded live on our YouTube/Twitch stream on May 23rd]

It's our last livestream of the season and it's a bumper one! Ruairi and Tommi are joined by friend of the show and resident Hammer, Tom Wain to discuss a mad final day of the Premier League season. City clinch the title, Liverpool put up an incredible push, West Ham get Europe again, Spurs reach the Champions League, Arsenal and United get Europa, Leeds survive and Burnley tumble, there is A LOT to cover.

Then it's time for Tommi to face his nightmares as he discusses an increduble Scudetto win for Milan, how many people deserve how much credit? Zlatan for being humble? Tomori for dominating the league? Giroud for always being there? Pioli for being the mastermind? Maldini for maybe building a legacy? Whatever the answers are it is a very good time to be a Milan fan. We then have time to discuss Salernitana's miracle and finally saying goodbye to Cagliari.

It's a big episode so sit back and enjoy!

We're almost at the finish line... but not quite!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's Friday and that means: football! And your favourite podcasters Ruairi and Tommi are ready to serenate you yet again with some good ol' footy chat.

In this week's Euroreview we start from an exciting Europa League final that saw Frankfurt lift the trophy after almost two hours and a half of very intense, free-flowing football. But why, oh why did it have to be Aaron Ramsey to miss the crucial penalty? Why can this sport be so unfair?!

And then, dear listeners, it's time to break down the last match day of the season both in the Premier League and Serie A. Who will stay up between Burnley and Leeds, and between Salernitana and Cagliari? Will Tottenham unexpectedly slip at Norwich? Can Arsenal stop embarrassing themselves and finally win a game? And is there still a chance to see Ronaldo in the Conference League?! But most importantly... who will win the title? City or Liverpool, AC Milan or Inter? Tune in and listen up: Tommi's got quite a unique plan for his Sunday afternoon...

Finally, you don't want to miss is this week's interview featuring one of the best referees the Premier League has ever been blessed with! Mark Halsey joins us for an informal chat on how to become a ref, building up your confidence for the big stage, making mistakes on the pitch, watching historical goals from within the football pitch and showing yellow and red cards both to footballers and... podcasters! Trust us, it's a good one!

Enjoy people, and good luck with your own footballing weekend!

  • Season 02 - Ep. 65 - Euroreview Mondays (livestream): May 16th
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, ladies and gents! But before the season is officially over... here we are ready to serenade you with our usual football chat!

This time around, Ruairi and Tommi start from all the farewells and goodbyes that have made the headlines this week: from Lewandowski to Haaland, from Suarez to Dybala... who will be the most missed? And have you also shed a tear when Mark Noble spoke to the West Ham fans?

We then move onto the FA Cup, as Liverpool keep dreaming of a quadruple and Chelsea lose their third consecutive final in the tournament. It could be worse, though: did you know that Mason Mount has now lost all seven of the finals he has played in Wembley between club and country? To top it off, this time around he even missed a penalty...

It's then time to review everything that has been going on between Serie A and the Premier League! As West Ham pull off a spectacular result against Manchester City, the Reds await their game in hand to see whether they can challenge Guardiola and his men until the very end... We then move on to relegation and, of course, Ruairi's nightmare: the four spots to play UCL football next season...

Over in Italy, AC Milan comfortably win over Atalanta thanks to two of their most iconic players, and we wonder: is Theo Hernandez simply the best left-back in world football at the moment? But most importantly: after yet another convincing win at Cagliari, can Inter Milan make dreams come true, hoping for a Rossoneri slip away at Sassuolo?

This, and much more, in our latest episode. Tune in and enjoy!

  • Season 02 - Ep. 64 - "You were in it, Dad!" feat. Neil Banfield
It's Friday and it's Anglo Italian Pod time!

This week Ruairi and Tommi are recording a matter of minutes before the North London Derby, those halcyon days, those happier times, so that's why Ruairi is a bit chipper. We talk about Inter sealing their first Coppa Italia in 10 years and ensuring Juve go trophyless. Is Perisic an Inter legend? What does Lautaro have to do? Can Juve fans ever complain about refs?

Then it's time to discuss the midweek Premier League action, Leeds' disciplinary problem, Big Rom hitting form, KDB preparing for Haaland and are Liverpool up to something?

For our Weekly Topic this week we have a BIG interview, he worked alongside Wenger for over 20 years, deceloping some of the most exciting young players in world football and was on the sideline for EVERY SINGLE iconic Arsenal moment under Wenger, it's Neil Banfield, now coaching at QPR we talk his life, career, Arsenal and QPR. He was a fantastic guest and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

  • Season 02 - Ep. 62 - "The game is simple, life is complicated" feat. author Stuart Quigley
It's time to talk football, ladies and gents!

Back with a brand new Friday episode, Tommi and Ruairi are ready to dive deep in everything Champions League, Premier League and Serie A related.

We start off by covering Salernitana finding themselves out of the drop zone for the first time in over 250 days. Undefeated in their last five league games, can the Seahorses pull off a great escape for the history books?! We think they can, and can't wait to see their manager walk all the way from Salerno to Rome!

Then, of course, it's time to review the Champions League semifinals. Liverpool manage to overcome a Villarreal first-half masterclass with the help of Argentinian keeper Geronimo Rulli and get to celebrate Klopp's third final as a red in only five years. On the other side of the bracket, Real Madrid do what they do best and come back to life just when the Citizens were getting ready to write them off. With no pressure on their shoulder, will Ancelotti manage to lead them all the way to their 14th UCL trophy? We think Liverpool's quest for revenge might just add pressure on Klopp's men...

It's then time for yet another interview, this time around with podcaster, author and overall nice guy Stuart Quigley, whose book "The Cornerstone Collection - Sculpting the Premier League past, present and future" is already available for pre-order and will hit the bookshelves in the month of June. We discuss where the idea came from, some of the stories we can find in the book and why the Premier League and the Championship are the most entertaining football leagues in the world.

At the end, there is just enough time to preview this weekend's clashes across Italy and England. We wonder... will Verona be fatal again in AC Milan's history? At least 1/2 of the pod is currently poking voodoo dolls under the table...

It's another good one, tune in and enjoy!

  • Season 02 - Ep. 61 - Euroreview Mondays (livestream): May 2nd
[This episode was recorded live on our YouTube/Twitch stream on May 2nd]

After over a month, we are finally back with our Euroreview Mondays!

In this brand new episode, Tommi and Ruairi start their journey across Europe from Turkey, where Marek Hamsik's Trabzonspor have won the league for the first time in 38 years, and Spain, where Carlo Ancelotti becomes the first ever manager to claim each and every title across Europe's top five leagues. Like a boss, boss!

It's then time to move to Serie A, where AC Milan win yet with another 1-0 over Fiorentina and Inter Milan don't slip against Udinese, keeping the title race very much alive. Is it actually going to go all the way to the last match day...? It's all starting to feel very tight, just like a relegation battle which sees Salernitana, Venezia and Cagliari drop points as they get ready to play each other in the final rush of the season.

We then move to England, where Everton and Burnley get crucial wins for their Premier League survival hopes while Norwich (and probably Watford) start packing their bags for a trip down the Championship. The title contenders keep getting past their opponents with ease, but it's the race to the Champions League spots that all of a sudden starts looking very interesting: can the North London clubs knock Chelsea off their perch? Because now... that would be something!

Finally, it's time to review the first legs of the Conference and Europa League before we move on to preview this week's Champions League clashes. In case you were wondering... we can't wait!

Tune in and enjoy: there's a whole lot of football to talk about!

  • Season 02 - Ep. 60 - "Great teams need arseholes" feat. chief scout David Bujara
We are back ladies and gentlemen! After a lost Monday and a few lost weeks, we are back in our flow and ready to take you through ALL the football action in England, Italy and across Europe.

We start by looking at Ying and Yang in the Champions League as a chaotic and beautiful Tuesday from Manchester is followed by a dull Wednesday, but is all the criticism fair? Ruairi then FINALLY gets to talk about Arsenal's fantastic week, with only a little bit of gloating before we preview all the Premier League action this weekend. Then it is time for Tommi to finally face reality and discuss Ionut Radu and the shape of the Scudetto race, is all hope lost? Or can Tommi dream for a little longer?

Then it is time for our guest, this week we are joined by David Bujara, Chief Scout at Morpeth Town A.F.C and all-round lovely guy, he talks to us about his discovery of football, how he knew from an early age that he wanted to be a scout and how his job works. In this episode, Ruairi and Tommi both share their adventures across Italy and London, with stories of good food, plenty of drinking and a special trip to a special stadium.

It's then time to jump on the Euroreview blimp to discuss the Coppa Italia semifinals won by Inter and Juventus and to take a look at what's been going on in the Premier League over the past few weeks. Just *what* are Arsenal? Are Liverpool the best team in the world? Can Ten Hag rebuild United and, most importantly: why on Earth did Burnley sack pod hero Sean Dyche?!

In our Weekly Topic we have the pleasure to bring back on the pod long time friend of the show Uncle Sharma to discuss anything and everything Inter-related. Is a "tripletino" possible?
