In this interview with Cleo, she shares a bit from her studio, showing us some of her scarves and she shares her art journey. Cleo has painted fine art for the gallery scene; she has painted interiors, done illustration, teaching, licensing, publishing and many more things under the umbrella of working as a professional artist. Her latest project has been to make a Patreon where subscribers receive an art tutorial video every month at the minimum tier, and receive an art scarf in the mail every month at the highest tier of membership!

In this interview with Mariana, shares her experience of becoming a portrait artist focusing primarily on pet portraits. Shortly after studying at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, a dog named Lobo came into her life. Their deep connection was cut short when Lobo suddenly died of cancer during the pandemic. Turning to painting during a grieving process, Mariana found her way back to art and has been making these portraits ever since.

In this solo episode, I am making five shorter videos all at once. Typically for this project I have been interviewing a fellow artist, but I didn’t have a guest scheduled for 3 days in a row and I decided to use that time to figure out how to create a new form of content; Reels. If you watch this video you’ll see me “batch content” by talking about five different aspects of art mentoring - complete with outfit swaps and everything. It’s my intention to edit this footage and then post it as shorter-form content / Reels. My intention with the Art Friend project is to be a catalyst for creativity- and this is a real look behind the scenes as I figure out how to make something new.

I was really nervous for the first half of this! It took me a few tries but I did find my flow as I’m brainstorming and talking about things you might not know, about working with an art mentor.  I refine the ideas over the next two days of livestreams.
