With the number of people living with diabetes in South Africa projected to rise to over six million by 2045, calls have been made for interventions to be implemented to curb the increased loss of vision due to diabetic eye complications. On Medical Matters this evening we look at the impact that diabetes has on people’s eyes vision and we’re joined by Dr Farah Moti, President of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa Ophthalmological Society.

On South Africans doing greatthings we talk to Mzikhona Mgedle who started the Langa Bicycle Hub from his second-floor flat in Langa, during the Covid-19 pandemic, which initially wa meant to deliver medicine by bicycle to bedridden people in the community. Today the hub is a local enterprise offering cycling classes, bicycle repairs, sales and rentals, bicycle tours, and much more. Mzikhona joins us t tell more about his cycling journey.
