Welcome to another episode of the Bayside Bubble where we are joined today by lifelong bayside resident, Dr Cheryl Threadgold.
Dr Cheryl Threadgold has a PhD in theatre history and is an Order of Australia recipient for services to performing arts and the community. She graces us with her in depth knowledge of the history of amateur theatre in which she quite literally wrote the book, In the Name of Theatre.
We discuss how she got her start in performing arts in Middle Park at a young age, and marvel over her beautifully melodic diction.
We explore the idea of ‘anonymous theatre’, an American concept in which the cast rehearse individually and meet upon opening night creating and the excitement that ensues.
Dr Cheryl Threadgold regales us with tales from her considerable experience in the industry as well as her extensive research and we discuss how this is showcased in her new book.
All profits from the sales of this book will be donated back into the theatre via the Victoria Drama League and the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria so if you’d like to pick yourself up a copy you can order one today at https://www.inthenameoftheatre.com.au.

Neale Fraser is a formerly number 1 ranking tennis player whose career saw him take the trophy in the Grand Slam singles at Wimbledon and twice at the US Open. That’s not to mention his 11 doubles wins and 7 mixed double wins across the Australian, Wimbledon, French and US Championships. He also happens to live on our doorstep in Bayside and has delightfully accepted our invitation to the studio to speak with us about his fascinating career.
We discuss Neale’s 2 for 3 record against Rod Laver at Grand Slam Finals as well as his experience on the circuit with his fellow competitors and friends.
Neale tells us who he believes is the best competitor he’s ever played as well as his proudest achievement to date, and dishes out some advice for the young players of today.
This was an incredibly exciting episode for us to make and we hope you’ll join us again next week for some more bayside banter.
This episode would not be possible without our sponsors at Buxton Real Estate: the premier bayside real estate company, and our friends at Chisholm Constructions.

It’s that time again. Time for another Bayside Bubble interview, and do we have a good one for you today!
Maree and Kate invite newly re-elected Mayor of Bayside, Councillor Laurence ‘Laurie’ Evans into the studio for a chat about our brilliant community.
We hear about the many changes to Bayside and local government over the years and how Cr Evans discovered an interest in politics after a career in architecture.
Kate and Cr Evans share their love for citizenship ceremonies and we hear about the touching moment when Laurie anointed his own daughter-in-law at a local ceremony.
We discuss the micro and macro issues that local government gets to affect change in, ranging from the addition of a clock in Sandringham to the impact of climate change.
Cr Evan asks us what issues are important to our families and talks about the policies that he is passionate about as well as what an inspiration it is to see the youth of today so enthusiastic to continue the work on environmental conservation in Bayside.
