The Bayside Bubble episodes

  • Sandy Street Art Project with Les Rausz

As 2021 starts to take shape and our routines return with the school period upon us again, we are excited to bring you another interview episode of the Bayside Bubble podcast.

Today Maree invites guest, Les Rausz, president of the Sandy Street Art Project to tell us all about the beautiful murals and artwork that they have been championing around the beautiful suburb of Sandringham.

We discuss how the SSAP source both local and not-so-local artists to contribute their talents to projects, as well as the process in which each artist approaches the execution of their vision for their piece.

We ask Les how he feels about his projects being a drawing point of the community and the backdrop for some very special moments including a wedding

Maree gets excited to talk about the prominent, ongoing ‘Dogs of Sandy’ project featuring local doggos, as well as the eye-catching new additions to utility boxes that are brightening up the area.

Have any of the Sandy Street Art projects caught your eye yet? • Life as a Young Talent Timer

Hello Bayside Bubble podcasters and welcome back to another exciting interview episode. Today we are thrilled to be able to share our conversation with Nicole Cooper, a truly lovely and genuine individual who was a figure from our youth as a six-year cast member of Young Talent Time from the age of 10.

Kate and Maree chat with Nicole about how she found herself a regular on the show and what her timetable looked like having to balance school with rehearsal and filming and what it was like to tour the country throughout the holidays.

We discuss the highlights of being a household name during this period including being recognised in public, the types of fan mail that the show would receive, as well as what it was like to meet and work alongside celebrity guest stars.

As the 50 year anniversary of Young Talent Time looms, Nicole gives us insight into where some of our favourite cast members are now and how they like to keep in touch and share old memories. If you would like to view and support the Young Talent Time 50th Facebook group mentioned in the podcast you can find it at https://www.facebook.com/groups/594216677894292.

We hope you loved listening from Nicole as much as we did and if you are interested in hearing more from us at the Bayside Bubble you can find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/baysidebubble and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/bayside_bubble/ for all of our updates.

  • Diving in with John Locco

Welcome back to the Bayside Bubble!

We hope everyone had a relaxing and happy Christmas and ready to welcome in 2021.
Today we are so excited to continue engaging in conversation about what makes our community the vibrant, wonderful place that it is.

On today’s show Maree gets the chance to speak with John Locco, the founder of Melbourne’s famous Brighton Icebergers open water swimming club.

Raised in Brighton and braving the icy waters of Brighton since 1973, he had a formidable career as teacher and as a local Brighton Councillor.  Elected as the Mayor of Brighton in 1992/1993, he was instrumental in preventing the closure and ensuring the preservation of the Middle Brighton Baths.

Maree discovers his passion and love of the bay and his dedication and commitment as an Iceberger.

If we have sparked your interest to learn more about the Brighton Icebergers or a desire to join them for a swim, check them out at https://www.brighton-icebergers.org.au

  • Bayside Banter - Christmas Traditions

Welcome to the last Banter for 2020!

Maree and Kate chat about Christmas traditions, specifically the origins of 'Kissing under the Mistletoe'.   Maree banters about the word mistletoe and discovers it essentially means "poop on a stick".
Kate runs through her Christmas tradition of what is entailed as family members try to win the prized "Cup".

Other than that, it is time to say thank you to all our wonderful listeners of the Bayside Bubble in 2020!

  • The Best Place in the World with Jack Cooper

Hello if you’re new here, and welcome back to our regular listeners! It’s good to be back for another episode of The Bayside Bubble podcast in which we revel in celebrating our community and its people.

On this episode local resident, Jack Cooper graces us with his time and helps us reflect on the history of Bayside from the perspective from over 65 years of residence here. Jack Cooper recalls the purchasing of land in Beaumaris in 1956 and the unimaginable price difference to today’s listings.

Jack Cooper’s love and passion for his community is evident in his history of founding and contributing to an extensive list of Bayside clubs including the Rotary Club of Mordialloc. Jack tells Kate about the origin of the Gnome and Fairy Festival that has grown in interest over the years and is busily planning its return in March of 2021.

It has been amazing to talk to such a passionate local and hear what makes Bayside the best place in the world for him and his family.

If you would like to get in touch with Jack Cooper to inquire about a market stall or to find out more about the upcoming Gnome and Fairy Festival in Mordialloc send us an email at [email protected] and we will pass it along. Alternatively, you can find more information and contact The Rotary Club of Mordialloc via their website at https://mordiallocrotary.org.au/projects/gnome-festival/.

  • The Good Sister with Sally Hepworth

Welcome back and happy start of summer everyone!

We kick off December with a truly incredible guest, best-selling author, Sally Hepworth. Raised in Brighton, Sally now resides in Black Rock after multiple addresses around the world.

Maree sits down with Sally to talk about her writing process (notably snack and lunch choices), and we relive Sally’s progression through study and work that led to becoming a best-selling author and executive producer for a future Hollywood adaption of The Mother in Law.

We discuss how feedback shapes Sally’s work and how she has built a strong network of Australian authors which can be relied on to vent or bounce ideas off of.

Sally lets us in on the details of her breakfast with Amy Poehler in which they discussed the television adaption in the process by Poehler’s production company, Paper Kite, and again we focus on what’s most important (breakfast orders).

Maree eagerly unearths some secrets from Sally’s latest release, The Good Sister, a novel with some very familiar locations for those of us Baysiders. Remember, if you would like the chance to win a signed copy head over to our Facebook page and let us know we sent you!

We thank Sally so much for her time and if you would like to purchase any of her novels you can visit her website https://www.sallyhepworthauthor.com or any good (and local) bookstore.
