An aging white male (Ken - the Beached White Male) and a young, influential African American male (Osahon Obazuaye) engage in a lively conversation about race. The two currently are co-hosts for an online Table Talk focussed on The 1619 Project. Nikole Hannah-Jones won the Pulitzer Prize and then, in a predictable white backlash, a vicious attack on her work. Osahon shares a very personal reflection, comparing the response of denial to the 2003 news about Kobe Bryant to the denial of America's Original Sin.  Osahon draws on the sermons and lectures from Dr. Martin Luther King. Ken points to the use of slaves as collateral to secure mortgages and loans issued to slave masters - representing a staggering portion of the nation's total, cumulative debt. They discuss the Founder's (Thomas Jefferson) intent when they wrote and signed off the assertion that "all men are created equal." They unpack the current tropes over Critical Race Theory, and how it is rooted in animosity toward evolution.  Florida's Individual Freedom Bill (HB7) is in the headlines and is representative of legislation and school board policy all across the county targeting the teaching of America's true history (CRT) in the government and public schools.  The strategy of censure, a listing of targeted professors, the denial of history all are unAmerican. To engage the truth is an expression of a deep love of America and the flag that represents our ideals.

With a university degree in business and corporate and non-profit experience in finance, Jasmine learned about the racial wealth gap in this country. She's taking action. Ken and Jasmine discuss that wealth gap, from the post-civil war reconstruction era where the newly freed, formerly enslaved were promised 40 acres and a mule. Tracing history since then, they talk about the way in which homeownership has been the primary driver of wealth for most Americans. But many have been left out. From the Tulsa Massacre (Black Wall Street) to Manhatten Beach (CA) to redlining, to forced segregation, to unjust banking policies and unjust public assistance, the need for resources and correction is real.
