November 2019. Thomas Frank is still down the Red Lion in Barnes with the Beesotted crew - and in Part 2 the conversation moves onto the inner workings of Brentford
Thomas talks openly about his role in recruiting players, both while working alongside Dean Smith and since becoming Head Coach, as well as some of the frustrations of working within the famous Brentford model
We talk about players who worked, players who didn’t, whether Brentford regretted selling the likes of John Egan and Romaine Sawyers, and the development of players such as Josh Dasilva
Then we get properly into Brentford territory - xG, stats, the infamous “Justice League” and the B Team, including which young players Thomas believed could be next to make the step up
And finally, the big question at the time: was this Brentford team actually better than the season before?
Listening back from November 2019, this one gives a fascinating insight into the model, recruitment and thinking behind a Brentford side that was getting closer and closer to something special
None of us knew it yet, but that season would take the Bees all the way to Wembley and within touching distance of the Premier League

The second part of our podcast double-header as Brentford head coach Thomas Frank joins the Beesotted crew down the Red Lion pub in Barnes to talk football, football and more football.
And we discussed how instrumental he was in picking players both when Dean Smith was manager and also this last window.
What frustrated him most about the Brentford ‘model’.
What players didn’t work out. Did Brentford regret selling players like John Egan and Romaine Sawyers.
How much have players like Josh DaSilva developed in his year in charge.
xG, stats and the infamous ‘Justice League’. Can’t Brentford just be top of the real table as opposed to the stats tables?
What players does he see next coming forward from the B-team and what players maybe are unlikely to make the first team.
Plus the big question. Is this season’s Brentford team better than last season’s?

November 2019. Just over a year after taking over as Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank joined the Beesotted crew down the Red Lion in Barnes for a pint and a proper chat about football
And pretty much nothing was off limits
Thomas talks tactics, formations, set pieces, recruitment and scouting, David Raya v Daniel Bentley and why things hadn’t worked out for Lewis McLeod at Brentford
We also ask him about mistakes, the dark arts of football - or “shithousing” - and what it felt like hearing opposition supporters singing “you’re getting sacked in the morning"
This is Thomas Frank well before the Premier League, sitting in the pub with a bunch of Bees fans talking openly about how he saw football and how he wanted his Brentford team to play.
Listening back now, knowing where Thomas and Brentford would eventually end up, makes the conversation even more fascinating
Frank talking. In the pub. Before any of us knew quite where this journey was going.
