The Bones Brigade Audio Show

Today on the Bones Brigade Audio Show, the big fat ollie one-foots are being thrown down with reckless abandon as we welcome back the one and only Frankie Hill- along with skateboarding legend Nate Sherwood- to discuss the 2011 Frankie Hill Documentary! Before the world knew the likes of Pat Duffy, Andrew Reynolds or John Cardiel, Frankie Hill was hurling himself down giant stair sets and massive gaps with a borderline-psychotic level of commitment that helped redraw the entire map of street skating. Sherwood’s documentary peels back the curtain on Frankie’s meteoric rise, the toll his all-in approach took on his body, and the darker side of the industry- where riders sometimes become expendable once the injuries stack up. As usual, we get into the weeds on all of it- the inspiration behind its creation, tales from the making-of, and the documentary’s legacy; shining a light on the lasting influence of a skateboarder who pushed limits long before everyone else caught up. The camera is rolling and the bacon is frying- so join us, shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Welcome back, carnivores and amphibians! It’s time for yet another delve into the mysterious world of the SK8-TV Files, this time with the oddly themed Episode 8- better known as “the animal show”. Heavily Powell-centric, this offering contains interviews with Tommy Guerrero, Salman Agah at the short-lived outdoor Skate Zone, one of the greatest Lance Mountain interviews ever committed to tape, and plenty of recycled ‘Brigadery, from the dubiously-renamed Scooter Race from Ban This to a reappearance of Sidney the Bulldog from Public Domain. True to its name, peppered throughout the show is also a hearty, if perhaps unnecessary dose of animal-related content, a sighting of the fabled Steve Salisian, and much more. The sweet sounds of urethane on cement beckon from the deep end- so join us, shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

Hot on the heels of our last episode, today we welcome back to the studio the inimitable Kurt Crucial and Rich Wilson for the thrilling conclusion of our two-part series on Kurt’s comprehensive The Search For Animal Chin Filming Locations video! From here, the BBAS crew ventures to the site of a fictional Las Vegas nightclub (located inside what is essentially an enclosed Southern California patio) and down some winding desert roads to a field outside the equally-fictional town of Guadeloupe where the monolithic Chin Ramp once stood, however briefly. Is the entrance to the Blue Tile Lounge now a small unisex restroom? Does “x” still mark the spot? Is 800 really Bakersfield? The backside ollie party is about to start- so join us, shall you?

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?

In the beginning...

A man named Johnny Rad donned a tuxedo jacket and sunglasses, and opened skateboarding's first night club, the Blue Tile Lounge. He crooned. Fans followed, and a musical revolution was born.

But one day, dark forces began to invade the skateworld. The Blue Tile Lounge was forced to shut its doors- its whereabouts lost, seemingly forever.

Hardcore skaters mourned its absence, and true believers sought out the missing location of this legendary venue.

Among these seekers were a duo called The Bones Brigade Audio Show.

They knew the only way to find a hardcore skate lounge was to ask the world’s most hardcore skaters, and began their search in California... at a place called Venice...

Rejoice, fellow Brigadiers; for today on The Bones Brigade Audio Show we’re honored to bring you the long-awaited, highly anticipated and stratospherically overdue *surprise* reunion of Anita Tessensohn Sanford and Leaf Treinen! Known far and wide for their famous Powell Peralta “Some Girls Play With Dolls, Real Women Skate” ad- perhaps one of the most well-remembered and influential advertisements in the long and storied history of a company known for its outstanding graphical accomplishments- Anita and Leaf broke ground and opened doors for female skateboarders the world over when they hit the scene in the mid-to-late eighties. We talk about how they met, their early days of skateboarding, the contest scene in the Pacific Northwest, what they’ve both been up to since, and tons more. This is one you don’t want to miss, so get down to the 7-11 and join us- shall you?
