The Brewing Network Presents | Dr. Homebrew

We had this idea: what if we had a few adventurous homebrewers brew beers according to some old set of BJCP style guidelines? Could they do it? What would that judging be like? How much has beer changed over the last 20 years or so? Turns out, there were other people who wanted to know the answers to those questions, too! So on today's show, we have on three homebrewers who each brewed some throwback beers for us, according to the 1999 BJCP style guidelines. Fun!

It's a double episode, with four hombrews up for judging! Well ok, three homebrews and a collab but like, who cares? In addition to the wealth of homebrew talk in this ep, we announce that Dr. Homebrew is going off our regular posting schedule (such as it was), and will now be doing shows on an irregular basis. Mainly whenever we feel like it. So in a sense this is our last official DRHB episode, anything else we do after will be special one-offs.

Splitting the wine and beer worlds up was probably not the marketing plan craft beer should have gone with. So many flavors and descriptors cross those fermented boundaries that the two beverages are more alike than not. Sort of. On today's show, we bring on Jake from Bedrock Wine Co., a small winery in the heart of California's wine country. Jake manages the vineyards out there, and has a very solid knowledge on how grapes shape the final product, and how we can perhaps bring some of that vocabulary over to beer.
