It's time for Halloween. Do monster girls even celebrate Halloween? Questions for later because apparently they do and with the harvest theme in full swing it allows the crew to experience a plethora of hot situations and introduce a plethora of interesting new monster girls. Add to the fact that in a rare sense of narrative nuance, the protagonist of a harem genre has to solve a real mystery, win the heart of a fair maiden (and mean it, unlike most schmucks that do it out of principle), and stun the women he loves with a surprise. Danny has a lot to say about this novel, and for once most of it is in the positive. That isn't to say the novel doesn't have negatives, but overall this is a fun time, especially when each novel continues to get better. Enjoy the costumes!

It's always a delight when a historian delves deep into research. However, this particular topic is especially important to Danny for numerous reason in which he will go into during the review. One of the prime reasons is because Portugal is severely overlooked when discussing global or European history. The tiny Iberian nation is usually overshadowed by its bigger Spanish brother and Danny hopes to correct that today because the global impact of Portugal is still felt today. That said Danny didn't want to cover the entirety of Portuguese history and therefore made it more succinct by engaging with one of his other favorite topics: World War One. Light novels and anime are beasts, and their influence in the global market is only growing. However, as such the two mediums of entertainment can never escape the endless debate of what is better. Most times the light novel exists as the source material, but there are those rare times when the anime comes first. Danny is always saying that in order to understand something one must first understand the origin of that something. For literature it is cave drawings, those wonderful, rudimentary sketches on the walls done in crude paint. However, before language, those drawings were language; so what, by extension, is their current iteration? Children's books. And what better way for Danny to analyze the importance of children's books than by talking to his mother. Together they go over some general concepts about the importance of children's books but then the episode drifts into an interview of Danny's mother and what she thinks about the evolution and current standing of children's book are in American culture. Danny's had a lot of time to think about this volume. Maybe more so then any others because he was cynical and pessimistic about reading it again. Years before when he first picked the series up to read he wasn't the biggest fan of volume seven and when he read the series again a year later he skipped it. Now he considers himself someone of a different mind and it was only fair to give the volume another chance. But what did that mean? Why didn't he like it? Why did he skip it? How does the him of now find it? All those questions are answered inside the podcast. Danny takes a look at his favorite light novel franchise and analyses why it works, and can only work if you don't skip a volume. Danny recognizes that this franchise is a sum of its parts, even if a few of the things in volume seven still don't work. Come take a listen to the battle in his own head!

Richard Kadrey puts his protagonist through a lot, but maybe none so dangerous as a trip back to Hell to stop his mortal enemy from using Hell's soldiers to invade Heaven. Can you do that while juggling all the new relationships he's built on Earth. Danny has a lot to say about the third instalment of this insane urban fantasy novel. He covers the development of the lore, the characters, and Kadrey's style of prose. He looks at the not so good which may or may not include new and old characters. He also takes a closer work at the biggest fault of the novel and why it may be hard for others to see it otherwise. However, not matter what, Danny has a few laughs because this franchise is insane.

In a literature sense, what does a journey mean to you? What constitutes a journey? Is it metaphorical? Physical? Metaphysical? Maybe more importantly, when does a journey end? Does it end when a new one begins? That's the quandary Danny has to question when reviewing the sixth novel of one of his favorite series. A major arc is ending and a new one is beginning, but what happens at the end that propels the next into existence? Danny looks over Rudy's journey and how volume six reflects on the character and the universe as a whole. He takes a look at the first six novels and how the first major arc ends. He also discusses why the expansion of the lore and world is a good and bad think from a character stand point. All together, Danny has to analyze why his favorite light novel series is the way it is.

This is one of those episodes and books that really tests a host. One of those situations that tests you as a fan, consumer, and critic. Danny must face one of his favorite authors and judge whether or not he is going to continue buying his books. Danny has faced six total books by Anthony Ryan, and while one of his pieces is in his top ten favorite books, it can be argued that the rest of his collection has been disappointing. Danny must fight with his growing fire and rage, and put aside his reader's hate in an attempt to reviews the material fairly - which we know will be impossible for him. Follow Danny as he treks through the stories of the four main characters giving each their own P&N section, and then he rounds it out with a final verdict, as well as a final judgment for the series as a whole.
