The Brooklyn Blast Furnace

This was one episode of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast that I honestly never thought would happen. My guest this time around is one of the founding members and legendary guitarist of Biohazard, Bobby Hambel, aka Bobby The Handball.

Bobby hardly ever does interviews or podcasts, so for him to take the time out to sit with me for an hour and a half was ridiculously cool of him.

We go way back to even before the formation of the band when he had a project called "Rattlehead". We then go to meeting Anthony Meo (RIP) then Evan Billy and Danny Shuler. We touch on the early days of touring, the first record, and 32 years of Urban Discipline. From the very beginning until now, a new record being recorded and paying tribute to several friends that have passed throughout the years.

He also founded the Extreme Music Awards, which will hold its 2nd annual award show on January 10th, 2025, at Empire Live in Albany, New York. We talk some Brick By Brick history and their upcoming EP, which will be released by Upstate Records. How he got the idea and created the Extreme Music Awards, and he delves into the decade-long pseudo-feud with Chris Jericho from Fozzy. After several weeks and a much needed vacation, the podcast is back.

My guest is, Queens native, international sex symbol and a guitar God.

He shredded for Metal Storm (Queens) the short-lived NYHC band, FUSE, wrote, composed and played guitar and bass in Maniac Rise, toured with Merauder and filled in for a leg of an Agnostic Front tour, filling in for Craig Silverman. He also recently played several songs for the Leeway Tribute set in honor of Eddie Sutton.

We go back to when he was a kid all the way up to the present.

A couple of hiccups with technology in the beginning of this, but we made it through it, and this turned out to be a really good episode. Enjoy. Respect.

WHAT UP DOE? The OG Kevin Gill is my guest on this episode of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace. Kevin has been around a very long time. Being the man who was in the harcore scene early on then bringing SFT (Striving For Togetherness) into New York City. SFT has released legendary material. My guest on this episode is someone I've known for over thirty years. Singer for Brooklyn hardcore bands, Inhuman and The Last Stand and bass player turned singer for Confusion... Michael Scondotto.

We go way back to the early 90s hardcore scene when we first began to go to shows. the early days of Confusion, Nobody's Perfect, Lament, Life Of Agony, Merauder, Patterns, and several more. The days of L'amours, Coney Island High and Wetlands. It was a unique time in New York City where the hardcore scene was relatively new and thriving.

Michael recently had the Confusion discography re-released on vinyl through Generation Records, which is a must-have if you're a collector. We go from Confusion to the formation of Inhuman, our love of horror movies and the birth of The Last Stand.

After being on the show over four years ago, the singer for the legendary Bay Area thrash band, Vio-Lence... Sean Killian is back.

I recently saw the band in Brooklyn, and after 38 years since the release of their first record, "Eternal Nightmare," they killed their set. Although not the same line-up, this is one exception where if there is no Sean on vocals, there is no Vio-Lence.

We speak a bit about the old days and being screwed by record labels and into the resurgence and recording their latest EP, "Let The World Burn."

From music to serial killers to the state of San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I always enjoy speaking with Sean. A thrash legend, survivor, and humble guy.

My guest on this episode is, in my opinion, is the criminally overlooked Tony Fontão. Tony played drums on the classic Leeway record, "Born To Expire."

We talk all about him leaving his native Sao Paolo, Brazil, coming to New York City in search of his dream of playing music as a teenager. He speaks about the entire recording process in order to create the debut Leeway record, being screwed by Profile Records and fond memories from a time that will never be duplicated.
