  • EP 185 - The Dark Side Of The Room
Episode 185 - The Dark Side Of The Room
With as many horror movies as we watch, we’re not ashamed to admit that we’re scared of the dark. Sure, it has affected our relationships with other people, and yes we do still have to sleep with a nightlight, and yes at the age of 34, Mike still pisses his pants if his cellphone goes into power save mode and dims slightly on an overcast day, but we deal with it, you know? Mike makes sure his phone is always well charged when it’s going to be cloudy, and carries a change of pants just in case, we always have a spare flashlight, and most importantly, to avoid embarrassment, we don’t try to form meaningful relationships with anyone other than each other. See, it’s fine. We’re good. This is healthy.
This week we grabbed some Blackout Stout from Great Lakes Brewing Co. and a change of pants, turned out the lights, and discussed two movies that prove why it’s smart to have a healthy fear of the dark. Cheers!!

  • EP 184 - Bad Brew: Jupiter Ascending
Episode 184 - Bad Brew: Jupiter Ascending
Mila Kunis scrubbing toilets, whispering almost every line, and asking too many questions. Channing Tatum with a blonde goatee, pointy ears, gravity-defying roller skates, and a gun that sounds like a barking dog. Futuristic space yuppies, bathing in human goo to stay young. Sean Bean actually surviving until the end. No, we are not describing what Mike thinks about before he goes to bed. We’re talking about Jupiter Ascending, the 2015 space-epic directed by The Wachowski’s. This week we grabbed some Animal Magnetism DIPA from Collective Arts Brewing, a profoundly good brew, and paired it with one of our Bad Brew discussions. Join us as we take a look at Jupiter Ascending to find out if it should ascend to the heights of cult classic status, or fall into the void to be forgotten.

Episode 183 - A Little Ruff Around The Edges
Dogs. Man’s best friend, right? Sure, but we get the sense that some people are mislead by that title. Anyone with a best friend knows that sooner or later, no matter how close you are, you’re going to have a pretty major fight. Lord knows we’re no stranger to that situation. For instance, just last week, I refused to give Mike the leftovers from my steak, so he ripped my throat out with his teeth. Honestly, I probably deserved it. He was being a very good boy, and I was kind of a jerk, but just like any best friends we got over it, and our wounds will heal in time. Well, probably not my throat, but you know.
So this week we grabbed some Thunderpeel IPA from Flying Dog Brewery, and explored the complicated relationship between man, and his best friend. Cheers!!!

  • EP 182 - The Devil Is In The Diapers
Episode 182 - The Devil Is In The Diapers
It's day number 670,000 of lockdown, and we all seem to be learning a lot about the people we live with. Like, maybe you found out that your roommate always starts the day off with thirty-seven push-ups, no more no less, or that every morning your husband listens to "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione while he's in the shower. Perhaps you finally figured out that the reason your friend is never available to FaceTime between 4:30 and 6pm is because that's Fap & Nap time. Then, of course there's the revelation that those beautiful, sweet, little angels who we send off every morning, only to have them return from school all tuckered out, ready for some snuggles and bed time, in reality are the devil incarnate. We always suspected they may be pure evil, but it took a global pandemic for the truth to be revealed.
This week, in light of this revelation, we grabbed some The Devil Went Down To Gary American Pale Ale from Arcadia Brewing Company, modified it slightly for our purposes, then compared the original Rosemary's Baby to the 2014 remake, because if anyone can relate to dealing with the spawn of Satan, it's Rosemary. Cheers!

  • EP181 - Hopped Up On Easter Spirit
Episode 181 - Hopped Up On Easter Spirit!
When you think about it, Easter really is the perfect holiday for horror fans. Dead guys rising from the grave, freakishly huge animals, breaking into your house at night to leave your children candy, and hide colorful chicken fetuses all over your house. And don’t forget the most horrifying part of all. Having to spend an entire day Sunday with your mom’s side of the family. The Horror!!!!!
Happy Easter, everybody. This week, in honor of the holiday, we skipped dessert and went straight to drinking some Carrot Cake Cream Ale from Perrin Brewing Company, and covered all the Easter bases with a movie about the second coming of Christ (parts of him anyway), and one about what would happen if we let that freak Easter Bunny reproduce. Cheers!!!

  • EP 180 - A Nice Pair Of Crocs
Episode 180 - A Nice Pair Of Crocs
We get why people are afraid of Crocs. They definitely get a bad rap everywhere you see them. We don’t personally understand all the hate though. They’re really quite beautiful when you take the time to appreciate them for what they are. They come in all sizes and amazing colors, they have interesting patterns and markings, a sleek, timeless design. They’re comfortable and casual, but can easily be dressed up with a nice pair of slacks, and they look great when combined with a classic tube sock. Yep, Crocs man. They really are the footwear of kings. Oh, you thought we meant Crocs, like the animal? No way. Those are scary as f***.
This week to honor the synthetic-rubber moccasin of the God’s and the horrifying creature from which they get their name, we grabbed some Outta Line IPA from Rogue Ales, and discussed a couple flicks featuring those prehistoric reptilian baddies. Cheers!

  • EP 179 - The Podcast That Dreaded Lockdown
Episode 179 - The Podcast That Dreaded Lockdown
It’s actually pretty easy to draw some parallels between our current lockdown situation, and this week’s movie selections, The Town That Dreaded Sundown 1977 & 2014. People are holed up in their houses, afraid to step outside because an unseen menace threatens their safety. The communal sense of safety and trust has crumbled away amongst strangers, friends, and family alike. And although they don’t specifically mention it in either film, we can only assume that the good people of Texarkana were indeed still able to find a small amount of comfort, tucked away in their safe rooms, surrounded by mountains of precious precious toilet paper.
This week we grabbed some Restless Nights Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Porter, a collaboration between Boulevard Brewing and Modern Times Beer + Coffee, and hunkered down in our respective home studios for a proper, socially-distanced discussion about The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Cheers!

Episode 178 - Full Term Terror
When we conceived the idea for this week's show, we knew that we were stepping into fertile horror territory. We weren't sure if these films would give birth to a fruitful conversation, but we were willing to watch them anyway, because it's a labor of love. We did consider not doing the show this week, in light of the current pandemic, but we're glad that we didn't abort our plans, because it induced a lot of fun times that we really needed.
This week we had a craving for some Nutter Your Business Peanut Butter Stout from Grand Armory Brewing, and some sci-fi pregnancy flicks. Grab a jar of pickles, and meet us after Lamaze class. Cheers!

Episode 177 - The Concept Of The Kill
    *takes cigarette out of mouth*
“You see, In order for one to truly conceptualize their work, it is of the utmost importance that every detail be thoroughly thought out before brush touches canvas, before chisel touches marble, before duct tape touches banana. The meaning behind the work transcends the work itself, thus the execution becomes little more than a perfunctory affair.”
“Ok, I hear ya, but this is just a bunch of dildos with smiley faces painted on them”
    “Or is it?”
    “Yeah”
    “Or is it?”
    “YES!”
    “Or.. is...it?”
    “..........Whoooaaaa”
This week we grabbed some Proof Of Concept West Coast Style IPA from Mikkeller Brewing, and explored the high concept horror of a couple killers who fancy themselves artists. Cheers!

  • EP 176 - THIS OLD HOUSE
Episode 176 - This Old House
We’re thinking about buying a house. Not just any house though. We want something with history. A nice, big, old house with creaky bones that tell us a story every time we walk through a room. Of course, we are aware of all the obvious pitfalls of moving into an old house. Foundation issues, drafty windows, leaky pipes, ghosts of murdered children, termite damage, lead based paint.... The list goes on and on, but we think dealing with all of those things would be totally worth it to have a beautiful old house with lots of character. Well, maybe not the drafty windows, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
This week, in celebration of our potential new digs, we grabbed some Accident In Hubbard’s Cave American Imperial Stout from Une Annee Brewery, and discussed a couple films about big old houses, and the beings who inhabit them. Cheers!!!
