In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan is joined by Corey Swartz of bearshockeynation.wordpress.com as they talk about the Capitals parting ways with Kevin McCarthy and Blaine Forsythe and what that means for the Caps going forward “Blaine has been a dedicated member of our organization for 17 seasons and was instrumental in helping the franchise capture its first Stanley Cup in 2018,” general manager Brian MacLellan said in a statement that also recognized McCarthy’s contributions. The Caps also move on from Kevin McCarthy per The Athletic: "It isn’t not much of a surprise that McCarthy is out, too. The 65-year-old has coached professionally for 33 seasons, making stops as an NHL assistant in Hartford, Carolina, Philadelphia, Nashville and Washington. He had served as Laviolette’s top lieutenant dating back to the 2003-04 season with the Hurricanes. The Caps AHL affiliate Hershey bears is headed to the Calder Cup Playoffs With the weekends win, the Bears finished the 2022-23 season with 97 points. Calder Cup Playoffs, and after earning a First Round bye, the club awaits its opponent for a best-of-five Atlantic Division Semifinals series set to start in the last week of April. The Bears finished the regular season with a mark of 44-19-5-4, good for 97 points, and second in the Eastern Conference. With Hershey being among the league's elite teams, the Bears not only qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs for the 70th time in the franchise's illustrious history, but along with division-winner Providence, earned a bye in the opening round of the postseason.The 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs First Round matchups in the Atlantic Division are as follows: #3 Charlotte vs. #6 Lehigh Valley #4 Springfield vs. #5 Hartford #1 Providence and #2 Hershey have a bye The highest-seeded Atlantic Division team that advances out of the First Round will play the #2 Bears next, while #1 Providence will battle with the lowest-seeded team to advance. . Then they talk about the Stingrays push for the Kelly Cup Lawton Courtnall’s game-tying goal with 4:17 left in the third period helped the South Carolina Stingrays (45-22-4-1) clinch the South Division for the seventh time in franchise history
