After 21 episodes, Ginny and Charlie finally get around to reviewing a basic vodka. This week they try Tito’s Handmade Vodka from the Mockingbird Distillery in Austin, Texas. Tito’s has a great story and luckily it has a great vodka to back it up. We try the vodka and then make ourselves a Godmother cocktail to with it just to make sure we still liked it. Ginny and Charlie are back to at least half steam for Episode #80. After recording their thoughts about Derby City Comic Con they head out for some shore leave that includes a massage and an excellent steak dinner. Then they come back with a bottle of homebrewed mead they got from a friend at Derby City. Ginny and Charlie are doing double duty this week. They are working on setting up Derby City Comic Con, the comic convention Charlie owns in Louisville, but they also have a podcast to record. So of course this week’s show will have to be the unveiling of  the official cocktail of Derby City Comic Con, The Constantine. Named after Charlie’s favorite comic character, John Constantine, this easy to make cocktail features a Johnny Walker Double Black to honor the characteristic smoking of the character, with a bit of Tuaca for balance. Add a dash of bitters and a splash of club soda and you’ve got yourself a great drink.

We are three days away from Derby City Comic Con, the biggest day of the year for Charlie and an event he's been working toward for over a year. This annual comic convention is looming as Ginny Tonic and Charlie catch you up on all the fun they've been having, share some behind the scenes info on the show preparations and same a wonderfully smokey blended scotch whiskey. It may be a short show, but it still packs a punch!

This week Ginny and Charlie bring you a treat from the Charlie Tonic archives. From her pin-up fabulous hair to her classic tattoo’s, Molly Wellmann is clearly a woman who takes the best of what the past has to offer and gives it her own modern touch. Back in April 2012 when Charlie and I sat down with Cincinnati’s most famous mixologist at her bar Japp’s in Over the Rhine for Episode 15‘s Bottoms Up segment I knew I was in for a treat and I was not disappointed. So sit back and relax as Molly mixes up a martinez, a classic early cocktail that is considered a forerunner of the martini.

It’s a blast from the past for Bourbon Day today. In honor of the invention of bourbon by Elijah Craig in 1789 we present you with a review of our favorite “everyday” bourbon, Ancient Age 10 Star. This more modest bottle out of the Buffalo Trace distillery is a lovely, rye-heavy, bourbon that is surprisingly smooth for the price point. Although the 10 Star hasn’t been as available lately you should snap up a bottle if you find one. If your local liquor store doesn’t have it, go ahead and splurge on the 10 year. You won’t regret it.

Charlie refuses to miss a week of the show and records a very heartfelt mini-episode live without edits after receiving some sad news and starting a drive north to be with family.

Many people who drink shy away from tequila having sampled rougher versions of this fine beverage in their youth. Join Ginny Tonic and Charlie as they demystify the aging process a bit and share some pointers on how to find the good stuff.
