Friends are like a target. Not THE Target but like the rings on a target. We have some friends that we keep super close and others that we keep at an arm's length. And sometimes we have people that we have in our close circle that we need to actually move to a circle that is further away and that is ok! As friendships get closer to the center of the target, as you deepen relationships and are willing to do more and more for those people, please make sure the energy you are giving is being reciprocated. Not necessarily at the same time, there are seasons of give and take, but the overall net energy needs to balance out. (Your children are the exception, they take what they want and that's just the way it is.)
Dear anyone flying on a plane who wants to have a peaceful flight:
WEAR HEADPHONES. Do us all a favor and block out all the unpleasant sounds that may be happening around you (for example kids crying, screaming, laughing, fighting, etc), don't "suffer through it" and then take to social media to complain about how parents need to control their kids on airplanes. You are the problem here, my friend, NOT us!
...I have strong feelings about this. And I express them more fully in this episode. Enjoy.
Once upon a time I worked at Disney World. And once you work at a place like that, there are some things that just stick with you (some things more pleasant than others). Today we're talking about some interesting aspects of the happiest place on earth that you may or may not find on the internet. Six fun facts to be exact. You may know some of them, you may not, either way we'll have a good time.
I was challenged to talk for 10-15 minutes on the topic of cleaning cars and, ta-da, this episode was born. I have five tips for you to help you keep your car clean. I'll be honest, the first two aren't very realistic but they would be very effective. The last three tips are very applicable, very doable and very affordable solutions that will have your car cleaner and fresher in no time.
You know how people make fun of the The Bachelor and The Bachelorette because there is no way that could happen in real life? No one could ever date and fall in love with multiple people at the same time and then have to choose between them. Or could they? They could. Because I did. And I'm telling you all about how it came to be, how it went, and how it turned out. Spoiler alert: Darren was not one of those two boys so, obviously, things with those guys didn't work out but it still makes for a good story.
*Note: names in the podcast have been changed to preserve anonymity though literally ANYONE who knew me during this time could tell you exactly who these guys are.
I have a hot tip for you today, friends. This will save you time and it will save you stress and it is this: always do a final check of your hotel room as you are checking out. Look under the tables, the chairs, the beds, in the shower, under the vanity, in the drawers, etc. The thing is that if you don't do those things and you are like me, you will inevitably leave something and it will probably be something very dear to your heart. Just because the universe is funny. And so is this episode.
Remember how I sat down with my therapist a few weeks ago and asked her to tell me if I have ADHD and she asked me a bunch of questions and we determined that I don't have ADHD? But now I'm thinking that I maybe just said the answers I was "supposed to give" and didn't analyze myself enough (or give her enough to analyze) to actually get to the real answer and now I'm obsessing and questioning everything about how. my brain works? Yup.
So come along with me on my whirlwind of an exploration into all of that. Maybe you'll relate to some of it, maybe you won't, but you should get a good laugh anyway.
I love desserts, like LOVE them. What I don't love is how I used to binge on them whenever I had access to a lot of them and I didn't want my kids falling into that same food trap I was in for years. Enter @feedinglittles and @kids.eat.in.color . These two instagram accounts help me realize why I felt the way I did about sweets and what simple changes to make so that my kids see dessert as just another kind of food. Today I'm sharing my two biggest takeaways from those accounts that have changed how I value sugar and how I serve my kids dessert.
Spoiler alert: we still have dessert every day and it's great.
