(NUMBER 1.14)

Many times the Lord grows us through His word and through prayer; other times He chooses to use our pain to provide us opportunities for growth.  Not all of the time, but many times in my life, I probably could have avoided this pain if I had been a better person or better leader or if I would have made better decisions. Regardless of the reason, though, the Lord used these situations, these opportunities, to grow some internal part of my being. And, I must admit, many times the type of growth that happened would have never come without having walked down that particular tough road in my life. 

Pain is inevitable.  We all experience it; it is part of making progress in ministry and life.  If we want to be where the Lord desires us to be, there is no way we can avoid the growth pain helps us achieve.

(NUMBER 1.13)

It's amazing how many church leaders go through life with people all around them, yet they feel a loneliness that just won't go away. It is actually fairly common to find a leader who is easily triggered by emotional circumstances.  These individuals find themselves in a negative state of mind for a whole day or sometimes even days at a time as a result of one of these triggers.  
 
So, what's the solution to the loneliness or the extended, negative rollercoaster of emotions? I want to propose to you today one solution that has helped me in a great way.  Let me share with you the idea of creating a Life Team.

1.11 My hardwired nature is to sacrifice relationships at the expense of productivity. I love to work. In fact, you can probably consider it my drug of choice. Fortunately, however, I know exactly where that comes from and I’ve learned to manage that tension within myself. I have learned – am learning - to create a balance of relationships and productivity in my life. 

It wasn’t easy, but for the most part I’ve done it.  No matter what side of the spectrum you’re on... I know YOU can do it as well.

1.10 Most church leaders I know are really good at helping others.  Sometimes, however, they struggle to be vulnerable and transparent enough to be able to allow others to supply their own needs. Here’s the greater tragedy of that story.  Without a coach or a mentor or a counselor to point those things out, most leaders are blinded to the fact they are relationally out of balance.

1.09 Burnout is a real thing.  There are pastors and church leaders all over the world experiencing burnout right now.  They blame it on the world’s circumstances and turmoil.  Yes, perhaps on the surface that may be the cause; it is definitely a contributor.  However, I believe there’s another reason - a better reason - a deeper reason - why so many are feeling burnout.  Lack of fulfillment is at its core.

1.08 There’s no way we can go back to what used to be.  In fact, I don’t want to go back.  I want to move forward; I want to create new and better fruit for the Kingdom of God. The major changes in the world today have forced us to get creative in our thinking as a church.  We are more insightful and more flexible; I believe that’s exactly what’s required for the end-time harvest the Lord desires in His church. We have a choice. We can sit on the bench and wish things would go back to “normal” OR we can position ourselves to get in the game and help get the ball across the goal line. I can tell you from experience, it’s no fun to just sit the bench.

1.07 Talking to his disciples, His future church leaders, Jesus said in John 15:16: “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit…" There is one thing holding these disciples back at this point from producing fruit. It is the very same thing that will also hold us back if we don't work to overcome it.

1.06 Talking to the disciples, His future church leaders, Jesus said in John 15:16: “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you…" The lives of these disciples perfectly intersected with the Master. Jesus called these future church leaders. Jesus Himself chose them. Yet, not all of them found lasting fulfillment. I think there are church leaders even today struggling to find lasting fulfillment. I just wonder what the cause of that might be.
