  • Talking With The Tinmen - Drew Hunter, Sam Parsons, Reed Fischer, Tyler Mueller and Tom Schwartz
We sat down with the Tinman Elite team for a podcast taping in front of a live audience at Fitness Sports in Des Moines. The guests included Drew Hunter, Sam Parsons, Reed Fischer and Tyler Mueller.
We discussed Reed's surprising 4th place finish in the men's 10,000 meters and what it's like returning back to the running store where he clocked hundreds of hours.
The show delves into the start of Tinman Elite, trusting Tom Schwartz, 'Keeping the Ball Rolling' and competing with a chip on your shoulder. We take a few questions from the audience. The audio may be a little difficult to hear since the mic was set just in front of the runners and Chris.

  • Ben Flanagan On Winning the NCAA 10,000m Title, His Mom, Trusting The Process
Ben Flanagan was one of the biggest surprises at the 2018 NCAA Championships with his win in the 10,000 meters. In his final race in a Michigan uniform, he unleashed a crazy kick to stun pre-race favorite Vincent Kiprop in the final 200 meters. Flanagan won by just .46 seconds in a career-best of 28:34.53 and became the first Michigan man to win the 10,000m title since 1989.
Flanagan went viral after he was caught on camera saying, "Where's My Mom? Where's My Mom?" immediately after crossing the finish line. He joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast to take us through the months leading up to his race, the 24 hours in Eugene and why he ended up calling out for his mother.
I wrote a short piece on Sports Illustrated on Flanagan's win from his mom's perspective.
    https://www.si.com/more-sports/2018/06/07/ben-flanagan-ncaa-outdoor-track-and-field-championships-10000m-video-mom-reaction
Ben shares insight into coping with injuries, visualizing goals and how he came to believe that he could be the NCAA champion.
We received a lot of listener questions on Instagram and many of them were answered on the show including:
What's your favorite dish made by your mom?
What's the first thing that he said to his mom?
How has coach Kevin Sullivan contributed and impacted him as a runner?
What's his favorite thing to do in Michigan?
What were some of his high school times and what was his development like?
What was he listening to before the 10,000 meters?
What are his post-collegiate training plans?
How was Taylor's the night after the race?

Chris and Sarah discuss her perspective of how she battled the awful weather conditions in Boston. What's life been like since her runner-up finish? When did the hangover stop? How does she take a performance like that and build off of it?

He also helped his Western Oregon squad win back-to-back DMR titles during the NCAA Division II Indoor Championship. Ribich plans to turn professional by signing a contract in the coming weeks ahead of the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines.
How did he get here? How does a Division II kid blossom into someone who reached the 2017 U.S. 1,500m final and lined up next to Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz? Ribich tells his story.
We delve into what it means to have that Division II label? How does he zone out the 'Beat the Division II kid!' chants during races? What did it mean to win an NCAA DMR title by .001 seconds? Is there a rivalry between Western Oregon and Adams State? What's the best piece of advice given to him by some of his influential coaches?
