The five hindrances are a template for investigation of that which clouds awareness and obstructs discernment. Ajahn Pasanno discusses sensual desire, ill will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and worry, and doubt. He describes their antidotes and the similes the Buddha used. When hindrances are absent, the mind is agile, pliable, and ready to do the work of investigating the three characteristics: anicca, dukkha, anatta.
