During the 1920s, the term poltergeist became popularized to describe the variety of hauntings in which spirits could actually make loud noises and actually move physical objects. In 1938, a Hungarian paranormal researcher named Nandor Fodor investigated the poltergeist haunting of a seemingly average housewife named Alma Fielding. Fodor came away from the experience believing he had solved the mystery of what was really behind poltergeists.

Back during the start of the 20th century, the Gilded Age gave way to the Progressive Era as immigrant labor was forced to work long hours in terrible working conditions. This all came to a head on March 25, 1911, when a fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York's Lower East Side, killing 146 people. Throughout the history of the old west, there are few lawmen with as interesting a story as that of Bass Reeves. He was a former slave who became known far and wide as perhaps the most prolific law enforcement officer in history. Some stories claim he arrested more than 3,000 criminals in his career, and shot and killed as many as fourteen men. He's also widely believed to be the inspiration for the one of the most famous fictional cowboys ever, the Lone Ranger.
