In this special episode I tell you the story of the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918, a pandemic unlike any other in human history. You'll hear what's known and still unknown about this mysterious epidemic, and I try to make sense of it all, and draw parallels with the strange situation we find ourselves living in today.

During the early part of the 20th century, radium was being promoted as a miracle cure for what ailed you. But a group of young women working in a New Jersey factory learned the deadly consequences of being exposed to the radioactive element. The story that followed is both tragic and horrifying.

Some stories you come across are so tragic and outrageous, it's difficult to believe they could really happen in modern society. On July 9, 1982, a French-born 14 year old girl living in Germany named Kalinka Bamberski died under mysterious circumstances. This would lead her father Andre to spend the next three decades on a tireless quest to uncover the truth, and to bring the man who raped and murdered his daughter to justice.

Back in 1880, a tiny island off the coast of Chile became the site of one of the last witch trials in South America. The defendants who were rounded up told a horrific tale of black magic, extortion and murder. And if we are to believe the whole story, they may also have created something unspeakable in a remote hidden cave.

In 2014, a family purchased their dream home in an upscale New Jersey neighborhood. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, the United States was plagued by hundreds of grisly murders, all committed with the same terrifying weapon, an ax. Between 1911 and 1912, a string of ax murders occurred in western Louisiana and eastern Texas that police came to believe were the work of a most unlikely serial killer--an 18 year old girl, who some believe may have been the leader of a deadly voodoo cult, dedicated to committing blood sacrifice with the ax.
