  • The Advantages of Buying Into an Existing Business
If you're thinking about becoming a COPreneur you don't always have to start a business from scratch. Today I'm chatting with Chad M. Bruckner, a fellow COPreneur who was able to fast-forward his journey from cop to business owner by purchasing an existing business. This can have many advantages, including having processes already in place and revenue flow, making it easier to work on your business, and not in your business.

Chad shares his story from a military career, to law enforcement, and now to owning Intercounty Investigations & Solutions, a private investigations company that specializes in pre-employment screenings and investigations. He explains how the opportunity to purchase the business came to be, and how he wrestled with his final decision to leave law enforcement for the private sector. Chad also has a deep passion to help those who struggle with mental health and works diligently to break the stigma surrounding it.

    About Chad M. Bruckner

Chad M. Bruckner is president and managing partner of Pennsylvania-based Intercounty Investigations & Solutions, Inc. — a firm providing investigative solutions to Municipal Government and Private Industry. Results matter, and after accruing high-level expertise via two decades of experience in law enforcement and the military, Chad is uniquely positioned to provide corporate entities, law firms and government agencies with the solutions they require.

Detective. Undercover Officer. Background Investigator. Digital Forensics Expert. Lead Field Training Officer. Patrol Squad Leader. Chad held all those critical roles, and more, during a 13-year career in law enforcement serving a large borough in the Philadelphia suburbs. Having conducted more than 1,000 serious and often complex criminal investigations -- including homicides, kidnappings, narcotics, fraud, sex crimes, and more — Chad developed and employed a razor-sharp set of skills to solve cases and elicit numerous confessions. As a detective, Chad established a trailblazing Street Crimes Unit that solved 100% of all shootings and robberies within his police department’s jurisdiction during his tenure. The unit made over 250 felony drug arrests between 2012 and 2015, and was responsible for a 40% reduction in crime during that period. At the same time, Chad became a court-recognized expert in several disciplines — exceptionally valuable expertise that he now brings to his clients.

Prior to his law enforcement career, Chad served eight years in the United States Army. A combat veteran, he supervised more than 300 operations in Iraq as an Infantry Squad Leader; his platoon was directly responsible for capturing four of the top 10 high-value targets in their sector. In 2001, Chad was recognized as Battalion NCO of the Year- and in 2004 Chad was honored as Brigade (approx. 4,000 soldiers) NCO of the year.

A certified police instructor who currently teaches a variety of courses to Police Academy cadets, Chad is also a trained volunteer with Police Crisis Intervention & Stress Management teams. One of his many missions is to serve first responders on the front lines, and help reduce the stigma of mental health advocacy in first responders. Chad teaches courses designed to help individuals maximize their potential and chart a path for peak performance, leadership development and improved well-being. Chad also has a YouTube channel where he posts personal videos on mental health awareness, with the sole purpose of connecting with other veterans and first responders to help break the stigma.

Chad holds a Master’s Degree in Digital Forensics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from DeSales University. An experienced and engaging leader, speaker and investigator, Chad is always seeking to make a positive impact on everybody around him. His core values of integrity, selflessness, diligence, attention to detail and loyalty have served him well throughout his life and his career. Such values are at the heart of Intercounty Investigations & Solutions, making it the area’s premier firm when it comes to delivering timely and professional results.

  • How to Productize, Package, and Sell Your Intellectual Property
How do you package up and productize your intellectual knowledge? And you might be asking, what do I mean by that? Many of you have started or are growing businesses that have to do with your knowledge, your skill, your ability, and other things that you've gained during your law enforcement careers.

Maybe you have started instructor, businesses, or training businesses. And you are using those skills and that knowledge in your business. That is ultimately what you are selling. But the problem is most of you are likely on the hamster wheel of exchanging your time for money. And this is a fruitless endeavor that eventually is going to lead to your burnout.

So, this episode is all about how we take our intellectual property, our knowledge, and how we productize it, package it up, and sell it. How do we take it from something that requires us to be somewhere or do something in person to provide a service, and instead, be able to sell that in a way, put it out there into the world in a way that doesn't require your time and energy. This is a powerful concept that will allow you to live a life of freedom and enjoyment and get off of that hamster wheel.

  • Step One: The Surprisingly Simple Process To Research, Validate, And Choose The Perfect Online Business Idea
Coming up with a valid business idea can be a sticking point for many COPreneurs. Today, I want to speak directly to the portion of the audience here that maybe hasn't yet come up with a business idea. Maybe you are in law enforcement right now, you're still on the job. And you're looking at things and saying, "You know what, maybe I need to look at what my options are and look at starting a new business. Maybe it could be an online business."

And if that's where you're at today, you're thinking about starting an online business, or maybe you already have an idea for an online business, and you want to know just how to validate that idea and what the next steps are, then this episode is for you. Listen in as my guest Jake Lang, and I talk about how to come up with a great business idea, and then how to validate it.

    About Jake Lang

My name is Jake Lang. In December 2014, I started my first online business. Since 2017, I have started more than five online businesses and generated more than $160,000 in passive income from my online business ventures.

I've learned what is necessary to start a successful online business that generates thousands of dollars in recurring passive income each month.

In the summer of 2015, I founded AssociatePI, my most successful website that generates an average of $5,000 in passive income each month selling online courses in the insurance industry.

I’ve since invested my time elsewhere starting small niche sites including the Pomsky Owners Association, a membership site for the Pomsky Dog Breed now generating approximately $1,000 per month through membership fees, AliExpress drop shipping, and a top-selling self-published book on Amazon.

I’ve done all of this on the side while working a 9 – 5 job during the day. I never spend more than three hours per day working on my online businesses.

With this experience, it is now my mission to help new entrepreneurs start and scale their online businesses.  If I can build these businesses and generate over $160,000 in revenue in less than 3 hours per day (and no work on weekends), you can too.

And in what balance should I give to paying attention to those different items, and how do they work in conjunction with each other?

So let's go ahead and just dive right into this topic and talk about it. The very first thing I want to talk to you guys about is whether you even need a website at all. (Spoiler alert: Yes, you do!)

If you're like most COPreneurs, you struggle with sales. The word "sales" seems like a dirty word that conjures up thoughts of sleazy mattress salesman commercials on TV.

But selling doesn't have to feel slimy. In this episode, Mickeli Bedore from Closers Media will share with us some tips, tricks and tactics to make selling feel more natural.

    About Mickeli Bedore

I'm a small town, C degree, ADHD, dreamer who was told he better learn how to swing a hammer or life was going to be rough.

That was all the fuel I needed.

Since I was 18, I've taken that doubt and turned it into the fuel required to perform in the top 1-3% at some of the largest sales organizations in the world, living all over this incredible country.

It was the push I needed to launch my first company and more after that.

It ignited the drive necessary to be financially independent before my 40th birthday, being able to "retire" from places, projects and things that don't excite me.

Today, I choose to serve those who have the same drive I did. Business owners who have all the intangibles but need help with revenue growth, getting acquired, and how to intelligently invest.

Life is short, opportunities are everywhere, and we only get one shot, so take it.

If you are reading this and feel like I'm talking directly to you, let's connect.

Till then, cheers to your success~

  • Legal Considerations When Forming Your Business with Wesley Henderson
It's easy to skip to the fun stuff when starting a business like picking a name, or designing a logo and a website. But if you want to do things correctly, you need to consider the legal aspects of starting your business first. Particulars like whether to form your business as a Sole Proprietor, an LLC, or an S-Corporation. And how to do those things without spending an arm and a leg while maintaining a high degree of liability and legal coverage.

Wesley Henderson has years of experience helping entrepreneurs do just that. He started Drafted Legal as an inexpensive online resource for startups with legal templates and guides to get you started off on the right foot. Listen to this episode to learn about the most important factors to consider when starting a business to help keep both you and your customers safe and happy on your path to success.

    About Wesley Henderson

Driven by his passion for and experience in running a small business, Wesley understands what it takes to start and run a lean business, and is passionate about helping other businesses do the same. He is also a practicing attorney, and is trusted by everyone from mom and pops to multi-million dollar companies to draft legal documents to ensure their businesses are covered.

Wesley spent the beginning of his career working for a big law firm, but ultimately felt unfulfilled. It was then that he realized his passion was to use his big law firm experience to help small business owners live out their own dreams. That passion fueled him to start his own practice with his brother, Henderson and Henderson.

And that’s what makes Drafted Legal unique: You get access to legal templates on a startup budget, but if you’re ever in over your head, you can get help from a real life attorney, too.

Wesley graduated magna cum laude from Wofford College before receiving his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was awarded the Justice J.B. Ness Scholarship. Wesley is a South Carolina Bar Certified Mediator. He and his wife live in Charleston, South Carolina with their two sons (and third on the way).
