  • Learning the Ropes: From Cop to CEO of a Venture-Backed Software Company with Ryan Schonfeld
Scaling your post-LEO business requires capital. What happens when the demand for your product or service outgrows the capital you have to fund operations? It may be time to seek investors. The process of seeking venture funding is a bit elusive and scary. In this episode, Ryan Schonfeld will share some of his lessons learned while growing his company, HiveWatch, through strategic investments.

Ryan Schonfeld is the Founder & CEO of HiveWatch.

In 2015, Founder Ryan Schonfeld was working as a leader of a Fortune 500 company’s Global Security & Safety Technology Group when he decided he just couldn’t take the status quo any more. Constantly hearing, “because that’s the way it’s always been done” and inefficiencies stemming from disparate systems and antiquated practices had gotten to be too much for him. From there RAS Consulting & Investigations was created to walk his clients through planning, education, and management of risk and liability, creating best-in-class, technology-forward, security programs for rapidly growing organizations. Through these services he found that there was a need for scalable security which some companies didn’t have the knowledge or human capital to create. From there sprung the idea of RAS Watch (now HiveWatch’s Swarm), a global security operation center (GSOC) as a service. In March of 2020 when the world stopped turning and the COVID-19 pandemic took over, Ryan recognized another need for a SaaS platform to make security leaders more aware, more connected, more proactive, and more informed - so he founded HiveWatch.

Ryan holds a Masters in Information Systems and Technology from George Washington University and a B.S. in Justice from American University with a minor in Information Systems and Technology. He is proud of his past work as a police officer and investigator and an instructor for the U.S. Department of State's Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. Ryan continues to serve as a volunteer Reserve Police Officer.

  • Secrets to Growing Your Authority and Building Your Business Using LinkedIn with Joshua B. Lee
The most frequent question that comes up from podcast listeners and members of the LEO2CEO Community is, "How do I use LinkedIn effectively to grow my business?" Today, the "Dopamine Dealer" of LinkedIn himself, Joshua B. Lee of Standout Authority, is going to school us on how to make LinkedIn your go-to for customer nurture, leads, and market domination. This episode is more like a mini-course than it is a podcast episode. We cover so many golden nuggets that you may just hear more from Joshua in the future.

Listen to the entire episode to get some of the best advice I've heard about how to leverage LinkedIn to grow your authority, your network, and your business. Joshua says:

"They call me “The Dopamine Dealer of LinkedIn” and I’m proud of that nickname.

Over the last 20+ years, I’ve built 16 businesses, wrote a book called ‘Balance is Bullsh*t’ and created a beautiful marriage and blended family of two children, Jayden and Skylar.

Way back in 2003 I built my career in online marketing with clients like MySpace and Google with advertising spends of over a half of a dollars, which generated over 35 Trillion online impressions for these companies.

As I looked at the business landscape around me, especially the digital online world, including the multiple social platforms – I noticed that it seemed like the noise and automation had grown to a deafening level and people were so terribly disconnected from one another.

I realized that we’d started to forget that we’re all HUMANS interacting with each other from the other side of a screen. In business, in social media – everywhere we weren’t seeing real humans and instead just text, noise and frankly propaganda.

How could I create a business that helped people truly reconnect? To see through the digital landscape and make real lasting relationships for themselves in business and in life?

That’s why I founded Standout Authority in 2014, so I can work with entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals like you to help you humanize your brands. Overall the last few years, I’ve focused on LinkedIn to build authentic relationships and clients as I believe it’s the most powerful business platform out there."

  • My Five Biggest Regrets As A COPreneur
We're making a bit of a shift and with season 2 of the podcast, the new COPreneur Path Podcast! This slightly different platform is actually in response to you, the listeners. I put out a survey a while back on LinkedIn and I surveyed some of you that I have direct contact with, and the response was a resounding, "Yes! We want a podcast that is focused specifically on the idea of copreneurship and the path from going from cop to copreneur, and becoming a successful post-LEO entrepreneur."

So, what I want to do today to usher in this slightly new, slightly changed, or I should say more focused podcast is to talk to you about my five biggest regrets as a copreneur. Now I feel like the term regret is sort of a stronger word than I'd like to use here, because do I actually regret anything? No, I don't. I don't regret a single thing about my journey thus far. Everything that I have been through in both a positive and a negative has been ultimately for the positive.

I don't regret a single thing, but are there things that I would like to go back and change or things that I wish that I knew before what I know now. And that's what this podcast has always been about. It's all about sharing with you my own journey and what I've learned along the way to help you be successful entrepreneurs. I'm hoping that by discussing these five biggest regrets of mine with you, that they too will be helpful. And they'll usher in this new chapter, this new season, this new era in the podcast that is now the COPreneur Path Podcast!

  • Career Change, Transition, and Development for Law Enforcement and First Responders
What happens when a law enforcement or first responder career comes to an end, whether through retirement, resignation or injury? What are the options for a new career or business? And how about the emotional, psychological and family impact of leaving? These are some of the tough questions we tackle during this episode.

I'm talking with Tom Wheelhouse, a former member of the Metropolitan Police in London who now heads up Mightify as a specialist in career change. When it comes to transitioning from your work as a law enforcement or first responder professional, Tom and I both feel it's critical to help you see that there are positive options. It's also important to understand many of the real and perceived barriers can be broken down and there are a host of tool and resources available to help you thrive.

We also touch on what agencies and employers can do to better support, develop, and retain their officers and staff. And because Tom is in the UK, we note a few of the differences and similarities between the UK and the US. This is a great conversation, be sure and listen!

Tom Wheelhouse is a coach, practical optimist and the founder of Mightify.

Having studied in the UK and France, Tom joined the Metropolitan Police in 2009 and worked across South London, the 2012 Olympics and the Territorial Support Group. These roles took their toll and finding support lacking, Tom made the transition to the private sector to work in business development and digital transformation. In 2015, Tom resolved to go back and improve the way people in crucial frontline services are supported and Mightify was born.

Tom's writing and ideas are featured regularly in policing journals, podcasts and panels on issues around career change, mental health, wellbeing, talent management and much more. He is proud to be a member of the National Police Suicide Prevention Group in the UK and has worked with first responders around the world. He was a finalist in ""The Pitch"" business start-up competition, where he was commended for the ""purpose-driven"" nature of Mightify.
