The Countdown

In the latest edition of "Wayne Yells at Horror Movies That Paul Has Made Him Watch", the big twist may be that he's not alone in his hatred of this particular film ...

Yes, it's time for the boys to go back to Haddonfield where Michael Myers continues his killing spree, not at all deterred by the fact that fire was eating him alive at the end of the last film. But ohh, for that to be the biggest problem in Halloween Kills.

Find out what those other massive problems are, as The Countdown continues ...

(Oh and stick around after this bloodbath for a big announcement re the show moving forwards.)

Countdown #344

This week the guys go back to the realm of TV - minus the ludicrously long Growing Pains opener - to talk the very best characters from dramatic television shows.

Sci-fi is out and so is fantasy, yet somehow, one of the guys (yes, Wayne) has a Smallville character on his list! Paul, meanwhile, has to contend with no-one from a horror TV show being eligible, but at least he doesn't resort to selcting someone from The A-Team ...

Yes, you've guessed that it's a contentious Ep this week. So join us as The Countdown continues ...

This week the guys get stuck into local-boy-made-good James Wan's latest horror release, Malignant. Wayne hates horror and was sick all this week, ensuring he is going to defecate all over this already divisive film. But what side of the fence does Paul fall on and how long is it before Wayne completely spits the dummy given next week is Halloween Kills?

Learn the answers to half of these questions - and more! - as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #343

Wayne is ill but the show must go on as they say, so he courageously battles through to bring you another Halloween inspired topic, the Top 10 Movie Kills. Except Wayne's illness seems to have fried his brain as he takes his list in some VERY unexpected directions, while horror-loving Paul is a whole lot more predictable (and gross) with his list, making for one of the more diverse Countdowns in a long, long while.

Which kill involving something you see on every suburban street kicks off the lists? What derided Bond film (somehow) makes a list? And which bisection takes the cake as far as one of the guys is concerned?

Learn the answers to all these critical questions - and more! - as The Countdown continues ...

This week Paul and Wayne tackle the hottest thing to have hit streaming since ... well, ever, in the form of the smash Netflix show, Squid Game.

Is this Korean phenomenon all its cracked up to be? Does it benefit from having creator Hwang Dong-hyuk write and direct every episode? And where should Season 2 of the show go?

Countdown #342

This week, with thanks to B-Dizzle from the We Watched a Thing podcast, Wayne and Paul have got their spooky Halloween costumes on to countdown the very best creature designs in film!

In what might be the final episode of the show, Paul threatens to call it quits if Wayne doesn't have his top three choices somewhere on his list, and ... well, Wayne disses one of Paul's choices so hard, it might be curtains for the show!

Ohhhhhhhhhh!

This week the guys shakedown a local business owner, set their mistresses up with a beauty parlour and whack the occasional ne'er-do-well, all while trying to agree on whether the HBO Max prequel to The Sopranos is actually any good.

is the marketing for The Many Saints of Newark remotely on point? Is Alessandro Nivola the unluckiest actor in Hollywood? And does a cohesive, self-contained narrative matter when you're hinging everything on callbacks to a beloved television show?

Countdown #341

For the 341st Countdown, the topic was so massive, the guys decided they couldn't possibly do it justice on their own. So they invited Montago Bradley and Tiffobot from the Fans on Patrol podcast along to put their combined list up against that which the boys agreed upon in a return of the Show vs Show format!

And that massive topic? Well, it's only the Top 10 Fantasy Films ever made.

Tune in to hear all about the very best the fantasy genre has to offer, as well as how Montago hates The Princess Bride, whether anyone would pass up Julia Roberts as a human sized fairy, and pick a side of the debate on whether eyeballs in the palms of your hands would allow you to look at your own taint while scratching your balls ...

In other words, it's everything you would expect of The Countdown multiplied by Fans on Patrol.

This week the boys are checking out the latest Mads Mikkelsen vehicle, Riders of Justice - a Danish film which has been causing quite the buzz through film discussion groups around the world

This thriller come comedy come action film seemed like the best of a lack of options this week, as the pandemic continues to delay all major releases in Australia, but in this case, it might have worked out well. Have Wayne and Paul stumbled on the sleeper hit of the year? And is this best foreign language film Wayne has ever seen? Find out as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #340

The Top 10 Last 10 returns for the final time in 2021, and while these lists are normally balanced between the terrible (ie. films to avoid) and the great (ie. films to seek out), it's fair to say that this time around, both Paul and Wayne have made some poor viewing choices as they wait for the delayed big cinema releases in Australia to finally see the inside of a movie theatre ...

Can Wayne possible have a stronger list than Paul? Does Paul have only have one bona fide horror film on hist list? And who has more documentaries gracing their list?

It truly is bizarro world as The Countdown continues with 19 mini-reviews!
