The Countdown

Well, everyone should know what's coming when you give this podcast the brief of counting down the top 10 scenes which made us crap our pants ... Scary scenes? Sure. Jump scares in films that wouldn't be classified as horrors? Absolutely. And oodles upon oodles of poo-related jokes.

But beyond that you'll also get quite the glimpse into Wayne's psyche (in particular), while Paul is having far too much fun tapping away on The Soundboard WITH (gasp!) Wayne's approval ...

The six episode first season of the latest Marvel series, Loki, is done and the boys have checked it out. Does it up the ante from the disappointing Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the patience-testing Wandavision? Or is it more of the same sub-par small-screen Marvel which we've had to deal with through 2021?

Find out as The Countdown continues ...

This week Wayne is donning a pair of aviators, slipping on a bomber jacket and coming in to land for redemption as he attempts to atone for his horrendous effort on the Top 10 Boat Movies Ep, by doing a perfect barrel roll with the Top 10 Plane Films! Paul, meanwhile, is his usual reliable self, caring more about passenger comfort than the need for speed, even as he invites you all to come fly with him up in the air tonight ...

*insert 50 other plane film based puns, but it's getting late and it's been a big weekend*

So come join the ride, at least until it's time to get off our planes, as The Countdown continues ...

The MCU is back with this loooong overdue origin story of one of its most beloved characters: Black Widow. It is another stellar entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or has it all come a bit too late? The boys have their answer for you, while they strike a pose on landing, as The Countdown continues ...

Countdown #328

It's time for another Top 10 Last 10! Which means Paul is picking and choosing a good range of what he's seen (from terrible to amazing) but yet to talk about on the show; while Wayne is madly scrambling to watch any ten additional films, and as a result, has what can only be described as "a list of films to avoid".

But fear not, the usual NSFW language, questionable insults, and punitive use of The Soundboard remains present (because otherwise what are well doing here?!) ... as The Countdown continues!

This week Amazon Prime Video dropped a $200 million feature straight onto its service for free and we should all be rejoicing. Instead, pretty much everyone is saying the verbal equivalent of shrug ... and the boys are here to tell you why.

Countdown #327

In this week's Countdown, the guys turn the spotlight on a growing (but still too small) population within Hollywood by discussing their very favourite films directed by women.

Covering everything from rom-coms to war films and with just about every genre represented in between, is it any surprise that there are some absolute classics which everyone should be watching on these lists? And is it any bigger surprise that Wayne uses questionable language in ranting at Paul's on-point use of The Soundboard?

Probably not. But listen anyway ... as The Countdown continues!

Are you ready for a film that will knock your socks off? That will leave you breathless with jaw agape at the sheer audacity of the action sequences? All while being silently impressed at the nuanced characters and thought-provoking dialogue?

Well, seek all that anywhere other than with Infinite, the latest Antoine Fuqua film starring Mark Wahlberg - as this one will only have you yearning wistfully for The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and F9, even as you completely understand why it was dumped exclusively onto streaming in the North Americas.

You have been warned...

Countdown #326

In this week's long awaited Episode, the boys count down their top 10 animated series of all time! What series from their childhoods will pop up high on their lists? And how many modern day entries do either of the hosts go for?

Bah, who am I kidding? Trying to make this one sound even remotely mysterious is beyond my Monday evening writing skills. So let's try a more honest approach ...

Shockingly, Wayne loves Batman. Even more shockingly, Wayne leaves off a beloved animated series which has ruled prime time television since time immemorial. But perhaps most shockingly of all, Paul is incredulous and bashes Wayne with the Soundboard over his poor choice. Which, of course, inspires Wayne to tell Paul to eat parts of the human anatomy. Shockingly.

Sometimes familiar is fun. And maybe even funny. At least the guys hope so ... as The Countdown continues.

In this new bonus episode format, Paul and Wayne step right outside their comfort zone to check out a film which wouldn't normally in their wheelhouse.

In this case, it's the indie drama, the Killing of Two Lovers, playing as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, running between the 1st and 11th of July.

Will the guys find merit in a film that doesn't have big explosions or over the top laughs? Or is this a case of one step too many for them? Find out as The Countdown Gets Cultured!
