The Countdown

FAMILY.

There's probably not much more which needs to be said, but if you've not yet had your fill of Vin Diesel never losing, physics being an optional universal extra, and car bonnets saving more people falling from heights than the inflatable mattresses fire fighters use, then THIS is the film - and the review - for you!

Countdown #325

This week Wayne is on-brief (hooray!) as the guys get stuck into biggest plot contrivances films have dared to try and sell their audiences.

From emperors making a stunning return to a superhero's ability to turn back time, no stone is left unturned as the boys attempt to one up each other with their choices.

Will Wayne dare to call out the Dark Knight trilogy for a massive contrivance? Could Paul possible crap on a fave horror film for how it bends its convenient rules? And just how long will the conversation about masturbation in lockdown go on for?

Learn the answers to all these questions (and a whole lot more) as The Countdown continues ...

Wayne is all abuzz, while Paul has been left cold to this sequel which no-one in the world was asking for. Ah well, Salma Hayek uses the "c" word in the movie so from that point there was never going to be a way to convince Wayne this was anything more than mediocre entertainment. At best.

Find out which side of the fence you fall on as Ryan Reynolds once again plays Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson collects another pay cheque, and Salma Hayek reminds us all of how amazing she is ... all while The Countdown continues!

Countdown #324

It's like the days of old on The Countdown this week, as Wayne completely screws up the brief, tries desperately to change things up on the fly, and gets called out for his shenanigans by a disbelieving Paul.

I mean, really. How hard is it to remember a topic as "complex" as Top 10 Boat Movies? But no, not on this Mickey Mouse podcast. That would be way too much like plain sailing on water like glass with a pink sky at night (rather than in the morning).

Can Wayne salvage his list? Will Paul give him a chance to? And is there any better film than Jaws when it comes to films set on a boat?

Wayne wraps up his month from hell with another horror movie, but because up is down and left is right in Bizarro World, he somehow likes it more than Paul who is sick of horror sequels masquerading as police procedurals.

Chaos ensues.

The fabric of the universe begins to unweave.

Such is the suckiness of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Countdown #323

This week the guys get stuck into some of the greatest big-budget films of all time with their countdown of the Top 10 Summer Movie Blockbusters.

Aside from having varying ideas on what actually constitutes summer, the boys have some very different takes on this list. For example, how many Tom Cruise films does Wayne manage to fit into his list? Which is the superior film featuring Indiana Jones? And what is the best sci-fi film of all time?

This week Paul has convinced Wayne to do another horror movie! Though, truth be told, he didn't have to bend his arm too backwards, as it was to a sequel to one of Wayne's favourite horror movies (and one that made his top 10 list three years back)! It's A Quiet Place Part II.

Is the film up to the standard of the first? Are audiences as respectful of the need for silence when watching a film like this? And, most importantly, will Wayne's bladder stand the tension?

Countdown #322

This week's countdown was wayyy more difficult than the boys imagined. Which means they agreed to go easy on each other as their lists were revealed. You can make your own wager as to how long that agreement lasts ... as they celebrate the most ridiculous movie missions in cinema history.

What absolutely dumb or ill-though through missions will make their list? How many will be missions to save the world from a ludicrous threat where the chances of success are about as good as Wayne making it through an episode without swearing? And how many will be about the size of a boat? (Seriously. Wayne. Holy crap, man.)

Join Wayne and Paul as they go on one last against-the-odds mission to find a good original property, Zack Snyder scripted film. Expect consternation, surprise, a zombie tiger, whining, incredulity, terrible character motivations, gore, less slo-mo than you might expect, and many, many plot holes ...

Countdown #321

Holiday Roooaaaahhhooooooaaaooooaahhooddd ...

It's been a long time since anyone has been on a long holiday pretty much anywhere, so this week the guys celebrate that not-quite sub-genre known as the road movie in order to take you, the listener, on a trip across country, and sometimes, across the world.

Will Paul and Wayne have their antennae tuned to the same station? Or is this the latest example of a brief that goes so far off the rails, it may as well be a train wreck, all of its own?

Find out, as The Countdown continues with the Top 10 Road Movies ...
