The guys this week take aim at the second big blockbuster of 2020 and the film that was meant to lift our spirits at the end of that terrible year: Wonder Woman 1984. With everyone of note back on board - from Patty Jenkins to Gal Gadot - this was meant to be a surefire hit. So what happened? Wayne and Paul have the answers for you as they make the call for #JusticeForHandsomeGuy

  • The Best & Worst of Television in 2020

    Countdown #301

This week the boys begin their wrap up of the awful year that was 2020 by taking a look at the one medium which seemed to be untouched by the terribleness that took hold of the world: Television! Both Wayne and Paul agree this year was a great one for the small screen, and spend far longer discussing their best of the year than they do taking aim at their worst. In fact, their lists are oddly similar for this Ep, but fear not, Wayne's old mate The Soundboard isn't taking it easy on him just because it's his birthday, especially since he seems determined to pick seasons of shows from before 2020 to talk about ...

Which Netflix premiere series did both guys think was more melodrama than the genre outing it was meant to be? Which AppleTV show surprised the pants off of them both? And which second season will reign supreme: The Mandalorian or The Boys?

Learn the answers to all these questions and so much more, as The Countdown continues ...

  • Monster Hunter review

    Happy New Year!

The world is about to be subjected to another MIlla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson collab based on a video game, as apparently no-one has learned anything from the Resident Evil series. This time around they're tackling Monster Hunter, and Paul and Wayne had a chance to catch it early thanks to Sony Pictures.

Is it worth seeing at the theatre? Is Milla believable as the Captain of a group of Army Rangers? And is Ron Perlman's wig the worst in cinema history?

  • The 300th Episode Hullabaloo

It's the big 3-0-0 this week and the guys are celebrating by NOT doing a Countdown (whaaaat?!) and instead are bringing back a bunch of the early segments that used to make up the show for an encore performance. There's Check it Out, Tag Lines, Insane in the Memwayne, a killer Seagal Watch, and of course, some amazing Listener Community feedback in the form of the Pop 10.

PLUS a brand new segment that the guys had a lot of trouble recording with a straight face AND a brand new Soundboard filled with the openers for the above segments we well as more than one sound drop that makes Wayne lose his sh*t ...

Will the show ever be the same? Find out in the last Episode for 2020 as The Countdown (probably) continues ...

  • BONUS: Disney's MCU and Star Wars Reaction Show
Shock horror! It really must be the end of days, because Wayne made time in his hectic schedule to appear on the monthly bonus Ep! But then how could he not, when the topic is to react to all the big trailers (and some tidbits of news) that came out of Disney's recent Investors Day.

So the boys watch all the big trailers and give their gut reactions (listen to Paul struggle) while bantering about all that will (hopefully) be coming our way in 2021, either on Disney+ or in theatres.

It's the first indication from an entertainment perspective that there is something to look forward to in the not too distant future, so get on board as The Countdown to the end of 2020 draws to a close ...

  • The Mandalorian Season 2 review
It's the longest review of the year for one of the few positives which 2020 delivered the world, the second season of Disney's The Mandalorian!

The guys geek out HARD on this one as they touch on all eight episodes in the second season. Does this season match, surpass or fall short of the first? Will it be more fondly remembered than the recent sequel trilogy? And were the new additions to the cast warranted or too fan servicey?

Learn the answers to all these questions (and more!) as The Countdown continues ...

  • Top 10 Last 10: Bye Bye 2020 Edition

    Countdown #299

It's time for another Top 10 Last 10, as the guys countdown 10 of the most recent films they've seen, ranking them from worst to best and mini-reviewing each along the way

Some of the films that are covered include Let Him Go, His House, Buddy Games, Love and Monsters, Possessor, Greenland and Honest Thief.

This one was intended as a big send off to the crapness that was 2020, and so it only seems appropriate that it contains perhaps the most Wayne moment that has ever Wayned. Will you ever tune in to the show again after this one, dear listener? Find out as The Countdown continues ...

P.S. To all who celebrate, Merry Christmas! And to those who don't, Happy Holidays!

P.P.S. As mentioned on the show, you can help Epic Film Guy Justin and his very ill puppy, Gus, here.

  • Swingers (1996) review

    "This place is dead anyway."

It's classic review time on The Countdown as the boys reveal WAY too much about themselves in discussing Swingers, the classic dating comedy from writer Jon Faverau and director Doug Liman.

Spoilers throughout for this one then, baby, especially in terms of the guys being less than money in referencing their tragic dating histories.

  • Top 10 Hilariously Nonthreatening Villains

    Countdown #298

With the 300th Countdown rapidly approaching, the guys this week turned their attention to a light-hearted topic which they could have some fun with before getting all "serious" about the upcoming milestone. And so it was agreed some hilariously nonthreatening villains should be named, shamed and laughed at.

Who is it that can't get past a villain's bangs? Will Paul allow his love of 90s Sharon Stone to colour his view of her turn in Catwoman? And can Wayne this week successfully count from 10 to 1?

Learn the answers to all these questions, as well as find out what the guys are planning for their 300th Episode, as The Countdown continues ...

  • Mank review
It's Oscar preview time on The Countdown, as the guys review the closest thing they're likely to get to the upcoming Academy Awards with Mank. This David Fincher film was written by his late father some 30 years ago and tries to be period accurate in depicting Herman J Mankiewicz as he writes the screenplay to one of the most famous films of all time, Citizen Kane.

But is it any good, or is it a whole pile of Hollywood self-grandiosing w*nk?
