The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. Racists have used a tumultuous, confounding, and grueling 2021 to punish non-white people around the world. The workplace continues to be especially challenging. There's been a complete spectrum of chaos. From Washington state to Illinois, worker shortages are making a stressful start to the new school year even more anxious - if not down right impossible. A week after the Food And Drug Administration officially approved the Pfizer vaccine, more businesses and universities moved to require vaccines for all students and/or employees. On one hand, White police officers, White fire fighters and a myriad of other workers loudly oppose these requirements. The fake vaccine card business is booming, and there are support groups to assist employees successfully claim a religious exemption to vaccines. On the other hand, fears of another shutdown and the potential work stoppages, layoffs and closures makes autumn look ominous. The Context of White Supremacy examines the catastrophe in Louisiana where Hurricane Ida is pummeling the region. This storm - described as the most powerful to touch Louisiana since 1850, touched down 16 years to the day since Hurricane Katrina and the levee failure. With more than 1,000 black people perishing during the first week of the storm, the 2005 catastrophe remains one of the deadliest occurrences in U.S. history. The C.O.W.S. hosted numerous authors, filmmakers and Katrina survivors to better understand how White Supremacists, not the flood waters or failed levees, were the biggest problem. As of August 30th, the entire city of New Orleans is without power. 911 calls are suspended in some areas of the state. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) formally approved the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine. This led to the Pentagon and other employers mandating vaccines for all employees, and President Biden strongly encouraged other companies to do the same. The Taliban is accused of a terrorist attack on a Kabul airport, where at least 60 Afghans (non-white people) and thirteen U.S. citizens perished. These events were drowned out in some quarters where attention was focused on the so called "milk crate challenge." Conspicuously, viral videos erupted where almost exclusively black people harmed themselves while scaling a pyramid of milk crates. The most recent death toll estimates more than 1,000 casualties. In this midst, the island faces heavy rains from Tropical Storm Grace which stalled rescue and aid efforts for the earthquake. Whites around the globe wait for the opportunity to "help" and "pounce." Across the planet, Taliban forces reportedly took control in Afghanistan. Some blame the current conflict in this region on the withdrawal of the U.S. military. Back in the states, R&B crooner R. Kelly returned to court facing a wrack of charges that he sexually groomed and assaulted underage girls. Speaking of children in peril, the new academic school year is set to begin amidst total anarchy. Ambiguity reigns as regions across the land try to implement mask and vaccine polices for students, faculty, and staff. The confusion and constant flip-flopping on policy has left guardians and children exasperated. A return to school is looming for many children and university scholars, but policies about masks and vaccines for educators and academic staff remains contentious and varies wildly depending on geography. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis threatened to block payment to Florida educators who defy his orders and require students to wear masks. Beyond the classroom, other workers are grappling with similar conditions. Some proprietors are leery of returning to mask mandates for fear of losing customers. Conversely, other establishments have instituted vaccine mandates for employees and customers. And within all this, black workers continue to be scolded for wearing Black Lives Matter paraphernalia in the workplace.
