Episode 19 features one of the greatest artists that I know butcher a cherished American classic into fish bait. Departing from the usual format, this episode is a "live recording" so that you can hear all of Jesse Phillip's spontaneous awkwardness, self loathing, and color commentary in real time.

(Jesse is a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and recently returned from a combat deployment to Afghanistan, and is also my younger brother. I practically raised him.)

Episode 18 features Earnest Lawrence Thayer's baseball classic, "Casey At The Bat." Although it was written in 1888, the game has changed so little that this could have been written last season!

Episode 17 features Edgar A Guest, a British born American that wrote simple, optimistic, hopeful, inspirational poems about every day life. It's interesting that his career overlapped both world wars. I could see why his style resonated with people back then. Hopefully, it'll resonate with you as well.

Episode 15 features Nathaniel Hawthorne's re-telling of the classic Greek myth, Pandora's Box.

Hawthorne (1804-1864)was a writer of the Romantic period who's works often feature dark themes and are often compared to Poe and Melville.

Episode 13 features a Philip Freneau poem called "The Brave Americans" about the Battle of Eutaw Springs in 1780 in South Carolina during the American Revolution.

Freneau was a member of the New Jersey militia during the war, and also a writer that helped bridge the divide between the neoclassical and the romantic periods. His work signals a shift from the Puritan acknowledgement of God's dealings with man, to a more humanistic, self centered world view.
