It truly was such an honour to have Malcolm Saunders the owner, founder and creative visionary behind the Light Cellar. The Light Cellar is considered to be one of the premier superfood stores in North America. One of Malcolm’s missions is to remind us that our food choices have the power to help make the world a better place and I believe this conversation reflected just that…
In this episode Malcolm and I start at the beginning and unpack his dynamic journey through the health and wellness world and uncover the experiences that helped shape him into the leader that he is today.
-Malcolm defines all that the Light Cellar encompasses
-Malcolm’s personal journey with diet and nutrition (transitioning into as well as out of a vegetarian diet)
-how the Light Cellar was created
-the parallels between spirituality and buisness
-connection economy / relationship economy
-Malcolm’s proudest accomplishments for the Light Cellar
-and of course… MUSHROOMS!!!

“You often feel tired, not because you've done too much, but because you've done too little of what sparks a light in you... What if we're not doing too much, but rather we're just doing too little of what truly matters? It's not hard work that exhausts us, it's meaningless work that exhausts us.” -Alexander Den Heijer

“Bridge is a mixed-media installation that engaged 13 East Village community members - aged 13 to 65 from various backgrounds - in a series of workshops where they each selected a Katie Green portrait painting, and in collaboration with the artist, transformed it into a personalized mask. Participants were then photographed wearing the masks in spaces around East Village. The working sessions and photo shoots were designed to investigate participants’ personal empowerment through anonymity.” [https://www.bridgeinyyc.com/]
In this episode of The Curious One podcast I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with Calgarian artist Katie Green. I spoke with her about her recent project Bridge.
Through our conversation we some things we touched on were:
-the inspiration behind the project
-the long and intricate process of creation
-how Katie discovered and chose participants to contribute
-what impact she hopes Bridge will have on individuals as well as the community
-lessons that Katie was able to take away after completing the project
-what some of the biggest challenges were for her
I was also able to ask Katie my Lightening Round questions:
I highly recommend heading over to East Village or checking out Katie's website to take a look at the murals she created.
“My incentive with Bridge was to explore how wearing a mask or being anonymous can actually create a unique and safe space for an individual to express themselves or share aspects of their story that maybe they otherwise feel like they couldn’t if they did not have that mask.” - Katie Green
