Russia is developing a space-based nuclear weapon that “the United States does not have the ability to counter,” according to the New York Times. When asked if he could tell Americans not to worry, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan replied that it was “impossible to answer with a straight ‘yes.’” In times like these, we need to remember one of Christ’s most challenging commands.

“Hobby Lobby-funded Jesus Super Bowl ads can’t hide the hate that fuels the Christian right.” That recent article from Salon has Dr. Jim Denison wondering if the author had met the Green family. As Dr. Denison writes, “If she did, she would have to know that they are the furthest thing from a hateful threat to our country.” In the face of such rising threats to our faith and our future, do you sometimes feel overwhelmed as a Christian and wonder if you can make a difference that matters?

Americans are spending more on Valentine’s Day this year than ever before—a record $25.8 billion. Paradoxically, today is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Combining the two days feels a little like holding a birthday party and a funeral at the same time. The one is filled with romance, dining, and chocolates; the other connotes fasting, deprivation, and discipline. In actuality, the two are essential to each other in ways that are transformative for our souls and our culture.

According to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, 86 percent of Americans think Joe Biden, age 81, is too old to serve a second term as president; 62 percent say the same about Donald Trump, age 77. The average ages in the House and Senate are 58 and 64, respectively. What does the gerontological state of our leadership say about us?

More than one hundred million people watched the Chiefs’ overtime victory over the 49ers in yesterday’s Super Bowl. What might surprise you is the number of fans watching yesterday’s game who have never watched football before. They are called “Chiefties.” The NFL has Taylor Swift to thank.

While you may not need another reason to watch this Sunday’s Super Bowl, I find the game more fun when I know a bit more about the players deciding its outcome. In particular, I like knowing which players are Christians and, it turns out, there are quite a few on both sidelines. There were two testimonies in particular, though, that stood out, and there’s a powerful lesson in their stories for all of us today.

“This Evangelical Billionaire Family Wants to Convert You on Super Bowl Sunday.” That’s the title of a recent Rolling Stone feature, a magazine most wouldn’t expect to discuss God’s love. But the article profiles the Green family, founders of Hobby Lobby, and their work with the “He Gets Us” campaign that will share the story of God’s love with millions on this coming Super Bowl Sunday. How will you join in that work of sharing God’s love with those you know and meet?

“Iran closer than ever to weaponizing uranium, building nuclear bomb.” That’s a headline from the Jerusalem Post. The Institute for Science and International Security warns that Iran could make enough highly enriched uranium to fashion a nuclear explosive in a week and could build and deliver a weapon in “about six months.” Why would Iran choose to do so? And why is this such an “extreme danger” to the world?

King Charles III has cancer. Buckingham Palace announced today that doctors found an unspecified malignancy. In response, “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments” and will “postpone public-facing duties.” My first thought upon seeing today’s announcement was one of shock. But my fifth thought should have been my first.
