  • The Politics of Identity. Season 1 Finale!

    Send us Fan Mail

We made it! Thank you to everyone who listened, reached out, asked questions, and  gave their opinion.

In this conversation, the Formers talk about how easy and yet, complex, figuring out who you are can be. We rehash our roles in the movement, how we threw caution to the wind and experimented with different versions of ourselves, and came out the other side much surer of who we are.

We touch on how much effort and intention it takes, and how devastating it can be to become a Former, and then realizing we're totally fine without the title of Former at all ... our work and transformation speaks for itself.

Again, thank you for tuning in. We have HUGE plans for Season 2 and cannot wait for you to hear it!

  • Loafers Still Lead to Violence: Generational Changes in the Far-Right

    Send us Fan Mail

The Formers discuss their time in the movement and how the package may have changed but, what's inside is the the same. Isolation, self-sabotage, loneliness, anger, and that nagging feeling of never being "enough" is something we all went through, regardless of the iteration of the movement.

  • Breaking the Overton Window. With Pete Simi.

    Send us Fan Mail

There is a period of time after people leave the movement where they feel like the Belle of the Ball. Either from speaking publicly, being involved in a lawsuit, or by getting doxxed, it feels like everyone wants to talk to you.
How do you know who to trust? Who has you in mind, and not just your trauma porn?
Enter a Former's Favorite- Pete Simi!
Pete has been researching the violent far-right for decades at this point. He started surfing dial-up websites and eventually found himself sleeping at far-right headquarters and speaking the language fluently. What has he learned? Did he ever have fun?
We wanted Pete on to pick his brain and he ended up showing us that not everyone who is an academic is only out to get the data. There are so many people that just want to know you, and aren't out to get you. Pete is truly a great human being and we will surely have him on more. Enjoy!

If you're thinking of telling your story but don't know how, or who to talk to, let us help.

  • Big Swinging Brains. With Andrew Marantz.

    Send us Fan Mail

Andrew Marantz has been covering the far-right for about a decade. When Sam was getting ready to leave the movement, someone gave her Andrew's email address, recommended she contact him, and disappeared. Andrew was working on a book about the far-right, Sam needed someone to hear her story.

In this conversation, Sam, Chuck, and Andrew talk about the state of, well, everything now. Andrew's book, Antisocial, is about the far(ish) right. But, it's also about accountability of tech companies, what might happen if we keep up the guise of a "techno-utopia", and how the future looks bright- only if we work for it.

If being on the far-right is starting to feel wrong, send something our way...

  • Spiritual Chiropractors. With Tony McAleer

    Send us Fan Mail

Tony McAleer is one of the most helpful, honest, and respected formers to be public.

After joining the movement in the 80s, Tony spent time in several different organizations until he realized that all of his hate was stemming from one thing- himself. He left and raised his two children and then started the difficult work of figuring out who he is on his own terms, and who he wanted to be.

Tony and Chuck (and occasionally Sam) dive into what it means to want love from someone incapable of giving it, turning your back on yourself and your peers, what it means to leave and how that impacts everyone around you.

Spent too much time f*cking around and don't want to know what it might mean to find out? We're around... www.thedailyformer.com
