Significant Impact: from K Award to Your First Big R01

The Downside of Overachieving

Listen Later

“Feeling relaxed and happy with my latest accomplishment,”…said no overachiever ever.

As an overachieving academic, it’s super difficult to celebrate the wins because no win is ever good enough. And it’s never good enough because there’s always more to be accomplished.

With the pressure of doing all it takes to thrive in academia, especially as a woman, it’s no surprise that instead of finding pride and joy with every step forward, you let the anxiety of still needing to do more push you forward.

But imagine what would happen if you stopped trying to prove yourself to the academic world (and yourself) and replaced your critical overachiever with a supportive, relaxed achiever.

As a recovering overachiever, I can attest that it’s not easy, but learning to silence your overachiever is possible—and so rewarding.

Tune in to this episode to learn about:

  • The connection between anxiety and overachieving
  • My battle against overachieving and how it can help yours
  • The unfair roles women faculty play that push you to do the most

And so much more!

Learn how to be kind to yourself because your accomplishments are worth celebrating!
