No two people understand the personal and clinical side of schizophrenia better than Kody Green and Carlos Larrauri, who are both impressive and accomplished adults living with schizophrenia. Kody, a successful patient advocate, has used his personal schizophrenia journey to help create a mental health community of over 1.7 million followers. Carlos, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and law student, has a unique perspective about schizophrenia as someone who both treats others and lives with the condition. In the U.S., nearly 2.8 million adults live with schizophrenia, a chronic and severe brain disorder. Unmanaged schizophrenia symptoms can interrupt many aspects of a person’s life. However, finding the right treatment and support can help adults lead productive and hopeful lives. To help other patients and loved ones navigate their own schizophrenia journeys, Carlos and Kody use storytelling in their advocacy work and on the Unseen & Unheard podcast to provide hope to others in the mental health community and show that living a full life is possible.
