We talked with David Low about why so many people are not interested in their dreams and about how we can inspire more interest (…perhaps a podcast for starters?). We talked about how many different ways there are of working with dreams from the numerical to the intellectual to the emotional. David shared some of his guidance dreams and some which showed psychic abilities which helped him in his waking life. He also shared a recent dream of his about a brick wall. We took a call from Mike asking how dreaming might heal the current divides in our country.
David Low, MS PhD is a former Adjunct Professor of Religion, and author of the textbook Universal Spiritual Philosophy and Practice. He has also been a substance abuse counselor, a technical writer, and way back when he got out of school, even a circus entertainer—a juggler! Today David has a counseling practice in Philadelphia, where he specializes in Mindful Recovery, Customized Meditation, but most of all Dreamwork. He’ll be sharing some of his experiences and talking about the regrettable lack of interest most people have regarding their dreams, but how that interest is now being forced upon us by world events.

Ya Mei shared with us the evolving seven step process that she developed to enhance her dream life. She described “feeling-ization”, a combination of feeling and realization which helps us to manifest our dreams and gave some examples of bringing the magical into the practical everyday of life. She also spoke about the importance of cultivating your memory in maximizing dream recall. At the end of the show, Ya Mei shared one of her recent dream poems called Spirit of the ABCs to Z.
Ellen called in to tell us about her dream of waking up too late to call in to the Dream Journal and also to share some of her lucid dream experiences, and Jeff called to encourage people to join the monthly Meet-Up group he co-leads with Ya Mei called “Santa Cruz Dreamers”.
Bio: Ya Mei Wolff-Smith is a mother, a partner, an ecstatic dancer, and a lover of life. She has been lucid dreaming for the last three years. Dreaming is not only her hobby but it’s a serious portal to self empowerment, awareness and reflection. Conscious intentional dreaming is one way that she uses to access wisdom spirit and truth.
According to Malcom Gladwell, it takes ~10,000 hours to truly master something. For Ya Mei, her waking life is her day job and dreaming/sleeping life is her night job, where she has confidently racked up those hours. Ya Mei continues to devote her relentless time and attention to knowing herself in a way that’s beneficial to all beings with her whole soul and strength.
One way that Ya Mei expresses her dreams is through poetry and she’ll give us some tips on how to turn our dreams in poems and will also share with us some of her dream creations.
You can contact Ya Mei Wolff-Smith through her Meet Up page here, or contact Katherine Bell, and she will get you in touch with Ya Mei.

We did an All Caller show this week: no guest! It was a dream extravaganza with 6 dreams shared by 4 dreamers as well as a call from dream-inspired musician Lola Jean.
Ellen from Santa Cruz drove her car into a restaurant. Laura from Las Vegas received a bag of sharp knives in a flimsy plastic bag and then had a chance to dress up from a celebrity closet. We also heard from regular listener and KSQD programmer Christine who dreamed of a dam breaking but as the wall of water swept towards her, she calmly sat down and thought of all the people that she loved. Carol talked about her dream with a goat and a flock of vultures. Then Ellen called back and shared a dream about baby leopards.
I also played some new “Dream Pop” music from the album Big Grey Sun #2 by the Death Hags. Lola Jean, the LA musician behind Death Hags, called in and told us a little about how dreams inspire her creative process. We touched on the philosophy of multi-universes vs determinism.

Laura Suzanne explains that it can be helpful to notice whether we are active participants in a dream or passive observers as well as to notice how our waking life feelings might differ from the feelings in the dream itself. We touch on the work of Montague Ullman and the importance of authorities being willing to be vulnerable in dream groups and relate this to the current issue of the abuse of power by police around the murder of George Floyd. We end with a dream from our caller Diane about the laws of physics.
BIO: Laura Suzanne is the author of a three part book series “In Your Dreams” based on a newspaper column that she wrote for Las Vegas Weekly. What makes her book series unique is that real dreams from actual readers are featured in the books. Titles include “Your Dreams of Sex, Love, Romance and What They Mean” “Decoding Your Dreams of Money, Luck and Success” and the most popular and personal favorite of the author is “Welcome to Your Nightmares”. In addition to her books, Laura has created a wonderful guided dream journal that can be used a point of reference to break down and decode even the most complex or bizarre dreams using a simple formula that she uses to work on her own dreams. If you write to her, she will send it to you as a free gift on PDF. Her philosophy when it comes to dream work is ‘Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life.’
Laura is the admin and founder of a popular Facebook group called Dream Enthusiasts with a lot of activity and engagement from the members. People of all levels from beginner to expert are in her group and quality content is shared and many dreams discussed.
Laura was a psych major at San Diego State University, however, she didn’t feel that there was enough information about dreams in her courses , so she went on the study dreams even further after graduation. She became certified as a dream guide through the Dream Interpretation Institute and took some courses through Institute for Dream Studies as well. Curious to know even more about the workings of the subconscious mind, Ms. Snell became a Certified Hypnotherapist through Serenus Clinical Hypnosis. Laura is also a Reiki Master and intuitive empath. She currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and when she isn’t doing dream work, she is tending to her pride of cats. Her real claim to fame is “Best cat mama this side of the Mississippi.”

As a bonus, we have a one minute check in around the Summer Solstice by Cosmic Joe Jordan of KUSP Planet Watch fame.

We talked about the many ways that dreams enhance creativity and about Dr. Morgan’s vision of building a physical dream community place with space for art, theater and dream groups. She also shared about how she was raised using Senoi dream practices. We then discussed the offerings of the IASD on-line events which will happen June 14-17 and got a call from Sylvia who talked about her experiences at IASD events.

We started talking with Paul Sheldon about how dreamwork in institutions brings in a feeling of community and dramatically increases employee retention and also how he sees his personal dream practice as one of cultivating a garden. Kloey Kelton then joined us, and we mused about possible parallels between dreams and psychedelics. We finished with a call from Julie asking about the meaning of things appearing in dreams in multiples of three.
Paul Sheldon’s 2017 book, Wisdom of Dreaming: A Guide to an Effective Dream Life is the basis for training programs in prisons, jails, and other institutions throughout the United States. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in human development. For his master’s thesis, “Dreams for the Future” Paul studied creative dreamers, whose visions and dreams led them to create new organizations and institutions. He has led workshops in lucid dreaming and what he calls “dreamosophy” throughout the United States and is also a national authority on the greening of America’s prisons and jails.
Kloey Kelton is a Dreambassador – an emissary from the world of dreaming. She is a Waldorf teacher, an experienced lucid dreamer, and an outstanding dancer.

Dreams and the Five Elements. We go deep into one of my dreams then we talk about how Leilani uses dreams in her work as an acupuncturist. We take two calls from dreamers, one about the meaning of cars in dreams and one in which the dream brings the dreamer some good news!
Leilani Navar is a dreamworker, licensed acupuncturist and practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She works dreams in person and online as well, in “The Dreamers Den”, a growing community of healers, artists, dreamworkers. People interested in how dreams can help us live in balance with our ecosystem. Leilani was inspired by her teacher Bob Quinn and his mentor, the late, beloved Jeremy Taylor, and now she brings dreams and Chinese Medicine together in clinical practice. She’s fascinated by how the symbols used for millennia in Traditional Chinese Medicine show up in the dreams of people who’ve never heard of them. Leilani also hosts a podcast, The Dreamers’ Den: Dreamwork in Good Company. Similar to The Dream Journal, she interviews experienced dreamworkers, teachers, and authors, diving deep to support you opening up to or deepening your relationship with your dreams.
