Arrows have been released. The sweet taste of success has already been sampled. We are hungry for more!
As I am typing this description there bucks are nudging does in the neighborhood, making scrapes on persimmon trees, and the breeze is a brisk north.
In this episode we discuss the conclusion of K.C.'s Colorado DIY OTC Elk hunt with his family. Their hunt came down to the wire! Also, as we recorded, we were driving around truck scouting a public property here in Texas trying to formulate a plan for the season opener. We got a huge boost in confidence when we spotted a true Public Land toad at last light! Right away the OnX came out and we started scheming away. We've plotted our attack. Now we wait to put the pieces in motion for opening day!
Look for the PLC from that Texas trip coming soon!

Today, we hear a truly captivating tale from our favorite guy K.C. Smith. He has spent the better part of this last week on his annual trip to an OTC unit in Western Colorado chasing elk. Drought and warm temps have a huge fire knocking at the door of his unit and man does he have an awesome story for us!

FINALLY! Big bucks are starting to hit the ground in select states across the nation. Our good buddy Alex Comstock of WhitetailDNA has been hard after the deer of NoDak for a few seasons and it paid off big time this September. He was able to take his first velevt buck ever with his bow dispite a multitude of factors working against him. We had to call him up to get the full story!
Check out WhitetailDNA for more from Alex. Dude is a legit writer.

We are seeing friends and others all across the country tagging out on social media and it has us juiced to get in a tree stand! Instead, were a few stories up in a building where we have the pleasure of sitting down at the Sitka Gear Headquarters in Bozeman, MT to tell some old stories with Chris Derrick, the Whitetail Brand Leader at Sitka. We talk pellet guns, layering for the hot and cold hunts that we encounter while pursuing whitetail, and why its important to conserve a species that is thriving at the moment historically speaking. Check it out!

The rut in the south can be somewhat of an anomaly. Depending on your location, you may see bucks chasing in the heat of July or there could be hot action in late February. We try to make sense of all that by chatting with Will Brantley of Field and Stream And Outdoor Life. Will is a true southerner at heart residing in the great state of Kentuky. He has hunted all over below the Mason-Dixon and has many great observances from his time spent in the southern whitetail woods.
To See more from Will, subscribe to Outdoor Life and Field & Stream!
Be sure and leave us an iTunes review for your chance to win a Premium OnX Membership! We annoucne the winner Aug. 30th!

Ever since I was a small kiddo in a South Texas tripod, I can remeber being amazed at how well deer can pick off a hunter. Thier eyesight is unreal and is something that sometimes plagues us well into our adult hunting life. Just this past year we were picked off by a group of does while we were still as statues (or so we thought.)
Recently we met Dr. Karl Miller at the QDMA National Convention in New Orleans. The man has dedicated his life to studying deer and is eager to share what he has learned with anyone who wants to hear it.
We gotta say, Dr. Miller is a good sport too. We had some audio issues and actaully had to rerecord about half of this interview. So here is a big thanks to Dr. Miller from us.
