The Element Hunting Podcast

Don't forget you have a chance to give us a review and win a free premium membership to OnX Maps for a year!!

Trail Cameras are at the top of mind for many of us this year. Thoughts of velvety sweeping beams and tall growing tines seem to creep in at any moment; enticing us to go check those SD cards much more often than we should.

We spoke with our buddy Jake Hofer of Exodus Outdoor Gear about two big bucks he killed last season and the tactics he used to get it done. We also learned a few new things about how trail cameras actually work and the best way to hang these helpful hunting tools.

To see more from Exodus Outdoor Gear head over to www.exodusoutdoorgear.com.

Today we have the pleasure of "bro-ing" it up with Michael Hunsucker of Heartland Bowhunter Television Show. We get to hear a couple of really great stories about a big buck that somehow escapes Mike in Iowa this past year along with a cool snapshot of the Brown Bear hunt that Mike was able to partake in this year. The main subject however, is about how to make great shots on these wary little things we call Whitetails.

Today we sit down in our dainty little room at the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans in which you could practice archery in our bathroom it was so large. We were there for the Quality Deer Management Association's National Convention and were lucky enough to convince Adam Keith and Matt Dye to join us. I asked them to convince that I am wrong about not being able to justify a land purchase for deer hunting. We had a great time and despite a few technical issues, were able to really get excited about purchasing property in the future.

We all like the idea of killing mature bucks. However, if we are honest with ourselves, the idea of a giant set of antlers is enthralling. There is just something about the rarity and beauty of a world class animal that make our hearts race and skip a beat all at the same time. Jared Mills is a guy who justs has a knack for these beasts. He has had so many encounters, chased so many monster deer, and arrowed an astounding number of giants that it has to be way more than luck.

This interview is jam packed with info that we selfishly will be using to try to seal the deal this fall. Luckily for you, we recorded it so that you can do the same!

For many, hunting is an escape. For others it is a way of life. Still others view it as a way to reconnect with their primal ancestry. No matter what your views, I'm sure that when you leave the pavement and enter the wild place you are after a certain experience.

In a time of intense social and political polarization, we do our best to have a median approach to what drives us. Yes we eat what we kill. Yes we gawk and ogle at giant bucks on the wall. All parts of wildlife hold value and we do our best to recognize their worth.

What a great discussion on what hunting should be we had with Garry Greenwalt. This fellow understands the satifaction of being outside, the importance of our heritage, and the necessity of understanding where protein comes from. Gary is a man whose many adventures and experiences have yielded him a unique but very familiar appreciation for wildlife and wild places. The quest for great experiences never ends.
