In today's episode of The Empowered Parent Podcast With Renee  we talk about the importance of normalizing uncomfortable emotions. As a parent of a Teen or Tween you are likely already aware that teen emotions can be BIG, sometimes seemingly UNWARRANTED, and UNCOMFORTABLE (for both them and us).  

Though we can see the big picture, and, understand that whatever they are going through now isn't a forever thing - for them, it might not feel that way.  

Without tools to process their big emotions in a productive manner, many teens will act out, shut down, retreat, resort to unsafe activities, or find themselves in an unhealthy mental state (that you may or may not be aware of).

This episode shares tools to help you help your teen process, accept, and navigate uncomfortable emotions, so they feel more empowered  and in control.

This month, in honor of Teen Self-Esteem Month, I'll be running a series of podcasts aimed at things you can do in the home to boost your teenager's self-esteem.   Today we talk about Letting Go Of Expectations, which can be hard for parents, because there will be certain things you'd like to expect of your teen. 

The truth is, however, that when we expect others (teens, partners, spouse, friends, etc.) to do, say or act a certain way...it's often ourselves that ends up disappointed.   

By letting go of how you expect them to show up, and recognizing that is out of your control, it can help to avoid triggers on your part; which, in turn can lessen the possibility of getting saying or doing something that might inadvertently impact their self-esteem.
